Hi Garry,

that is true that it does not point as high as many other boats but then it is a lot wider than most other 36ft boats, it is a trade between speed and space. Having said that , if you are not in a hurray you can just back off a bit and do more tacks.

Hi, The SC 36s were built exactly where?, South Coast NSW? What approx $$. would you be looking at for a tidy looked after one?

They were built in Caringbah just south of Sydney in the eighties / early nineties. There are a few on www.yachthub.com.au for sale now. They are around the $60k to $70k mark for a good one with a decent fit out.

South Coast 36s were built at Dapto, or near there, south of Woolongong. Rudi Walkens was the builder, starting production there of the SC 25 (Roberts 25) and besides the SC 36 (Roberts 36) he built SC 28 (Triton 28) and the SC 32. All SC 36s were built in the eighties, ending around 1986. A company called RMK Marine in Carrum Downs Vic. picked up the SC36 molds and tried to get back in production in the late 90s or 2000s and renamed the model Pacifica but as far as I can gather, produced just one completed boat called Kool Sid.
BTW - After South Coast Yachts closed up, Rudi Walkens went into partnership with the guy who built the Sea Wind cats. They set up a factory near Woonona, north of Woolongong.

I saw yours when for sale about 10mths ago?? It looked a beauty!! How have you found it.
My biggest question is, honestly, how does it point into the wind?

Initial experiences weren't good into the wind - getting her to tack through isn't easy at lower speeds but backing the headsail helped. Once the momentum's up, she's fine. About 40deg to the wind is as close as she'll go - 45 is lovely. I have a lot more to learn with her, that's for sure, but I have to say that she really feels happy in the ocean and I'm delighted with her overall. My plans don't include racing (well, not on this boat) and my ideal is not to be in a hurry. Here are a couple of links to stories I've written on her, about the delivery from Lake Mac to Melbourne.

I bought "NANKEEN" at Newport on the Pittwater. She is a fine vessel that requires a bit of TLC. Giving her a birthday and getting her seaworthy to take home to the Sunshine Coast.

Has anyone replaced the toe rail on their South Coast 36? I'm just looking at swapping out the worn out wood for alloy but before I pull it all off I'd like an idea of what's underneath. If anyone's got info or photos, that'd be a huge help.

Hi all
I have recently purchased South Coast 36 (Voyager 11)
While kids are still at school plan to keep her on the Gippsland Lakes. As she only needs 1.4m i think we should be able to find enough places to go while i wait to head North. Currently planning to learn as much as i can on Port Phillip Bay in Victoria over next year or so before heading out into Bass Straight. Just need to minimize seasickness issue that can keep me from were i need to be. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Jason, congratulations on getting your SC 36. You will get loads of enjoyment from her. Mine is called NANKEEN. What is your rig. Sloop or ketch. They have a pretty good motion at sea as a good solid heavier hull. You will get used to it in time. Stay topside and scan the horizon in the fresh air as much as you can while getting used to her. Being down below below in a sloppy sea is a bit harder to take. It's a bit like rolling around in a box. If you try a tablet , take it early to get it into your system a bit before you go. They can make you quite thirsty. Greg
