As far as being a sailing boat or motor sailor, I think her appearance is as close as you can get a sailing boat, to a motor sailor, with out crossing the line.

I love the full keel which only draw 1.4m, and the high freeboard which creates plenty of headroom and storage space down below.

I think it is the high freeboard & centre cockpit, combined with a solid dodger, that gives people the impression of a motor sailor.

Anyhow

Hi Sea scamp

which one did you buy? I have SALMO currently up Pittwater having a few things done to her.

Re: Aussie SouthCoast 36 Yachts

Hi Mocking
I bought Sea Scamp, she was up in Scarboughra Qld (Morten Bay).
I had a look at a few other South Coast 36's, but don't recall seeing SALMO.

I spent a solid week, slipping, cleaning and repairing, binnimis and sail covers, still have a way to go yet,

the anchor chain looked sus so I pulled it out and inspected it while on the slip, and it broke in half, so that was the first 1200 bucks gone for 100m of 8mm chain.

another grand on replacing the running rigging (ropes only)

think I have spent 5k already but still going to need more, in the refrigeration and solar panel and battery area.

Cheers

Re: Aussie SouthCoast 36 Yachts

Hey all, just bought a South Coast 36 about a month ago. She's still up north and I'm down in Melbourne but hopefully weather will allow us to be together soon. Like some of the other comments, I was looking around and kept coming back to this model as the answer to my needs. Anyhow, for now I'm just sort of introducing myself to the forum and in time I'm sure I'll be annoying you all with endless questions.

Hey Adam,
Congratulations, they are great boats. I bought Salmo last year and am still learning how to handle her in different conditions.
Which one did you buy?

Re: Aussie SouthCoast 36 Yachts

I bought Voyager II. She's currently on Lake Macquarie. Been antifouled and buffed, now for some rigging ($$$) and an engine service while we wait for the weather to sail south. And yes, I know ... the number of people who've told me that when I leave Lake Mac I should be turning left.

Hey Adam M

I remember seeing her on YACHTHUB, but never got around to looking at her, well done.

Hope you enjoy sailing her back down south, they are very nice boats. I am hoping to take SALMO up north to Port Macquarie at Christmas.

Re: Aussie SouthCoast 36 Yachts

I looked at few of them - a couple in Sydney - and lastly made the extra drive up to Newcastle. Glad I did. So far, so good. Just waiting on weather now.
Enjoy your cruise north. For some crazy reason, I've chosen this year to go to visit family in England for Christmas. But I've already got a long list of people willing to sacrifice their time and generously look after her for me!

Re: Aussie SouthCoast 36 Yachts

Hi Adam,
Congratulations

I from Lack Macquarie, and to have just bought a South Coast 36 "Sea Scamp", I saw "Voyager ll " on the internet a couple of days after I purchased Sea Scamp,, & didn't get to look at her.

I'm going to bring Sea Scamp back down to Lake Mac around October, once I get used to sailing her around up here.

I'm going to be cruising around Morten & Harvey Bay for about a month starting late next week. I might even hold of week so I can go to the Boat show and spend what little money I have left over.

Coops.
Hey, I'd be interested - mine's a ketch. My rigger is suggesting returning it to running backstays and I'm wondering whether to go with that.

Have to try to catch up with you in Lake Mac, then. I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

Hi Adam
I am planning on sailing into Lake Mac sometime around the end of October, probally spend a few days around Port Stephens at anchor just soaking it up and enjoying the sun.

Cheers

Re: Aussie SouthCoast 36 Yachts

Hey all,

Need to get a new anchor but can not find any reference to how much the SC36 weighs, any ideas? I would imagine that they would all be similar.

Hi Mocking

I came out of the water the other day, on a travel lift, and Sea Scamp weighed in at 8.5tons I would allow for at least 10ton if I was buying a new anchor.
Sea Scamp has got a 25bl QRC plough anchor (swivelling head) hanging off one hundred metres of 8mm gal chain, which I have set, now in both sand and soft mud in strong currents and wind, with limited chop and the anchor has not triped or dragged even after swinging through a full 180degrees every tide change, in saying that when the time comes to up grade the anchor I will be going up a size or two.

Cheers
