Anyone Sail a Fisher 37 ?

Hello Cruisers. Would like to talk to anyone who has sailed a Fisher 37... especially singlehanded. Thanks.

I suggest you visit the Fisher Owners Group (FOG) and post your question there. I am sure you can get lots of info from them. Fisher's are interesting boats. I actually had a signed purchase agreement for a 34 footer once but passed after the survey. I looked for a 37 for several years but good ones are hard to find.

Aloha InlandMariner...Welcome to the forum. I'm sure someone has sailed on one here. I see you are from Alberta. I spent two years in Calgary/Banff area. Beautiful country. It's a little warmer where I am now.

Welcome aboard! I always wished someone would invite me aboard a Fisher. They are just a bit rare where I've been sailing.
I would say they would be very comfortable in the colder climates but would not be a fast boat.

Sparty, I’ve been poking around in the FOG but it seems like those skippers prefer to remain shrouded in mystery. They are a pretty introspective bunch. It only serves to make me more curious. Where are all these darn things? Pretty popular in the Netherlands. Was the 34 you were looking at a Pilothouse? What did the survey reveal to kill that deal?

Celestialsailor, it’s a pretty safe bet that I won’t be seeing any F37s in Alberta. Fortunately, I am gravitating towards the Juan de Fuca Strait which will eventually become the jumping off point to my chosen cruising grounds. Interesting to see that you have a Pilothouse out there in Hawaii. I’ll probably head for Alaska... hence my interest in the PH. Does your PH get “too hot” in the tropical sun?

No, SkiprJohn, they would not be a fast boat. I have yet to run the numbers. They do however have all kinds of sails. A ketch-cutter, sailed full and by would be all kinds of fast for a PH modeled after a North Sea fishing trawler, no? Sitting inside, it seems a proper little ship. I’d almost be disappointed if it didn’t snow as I dodged bergs on the way down to Antarctica.

Inland...I could not find the numbers on a Fisher 37...Only a 25. The comfort factor is really good on the 25 though...35. My boat is still in NY and will be moved to North Ca. in April. I am actively looking into moving back there. Even though it is a pilothouse, it still has outside steering also. So inside, it is as hot as any boat in the tropics. I like the concept that if it gets really crappy, you can set the autopilot on watch and duck inside.

I am reading Mauch's sailboat guide, and according to that book, the LOA is 37.0 and the sail area is 1,171 sq. ft.

No hands on experiance, but I recall reading over the years that the rigs varied in size as well as between sloop and ketch.....partly in accordance with owner's tastes.

I seem to recall reading that the newer ones (and sloops) sailed a lot better and surprisingly well - even if never going to be a light airs around the cans kinda boat ........but no idea if that was just marketing style blurb..........
