Hello everybody!
I'm glad to see that you have a section on scuba diving while cruising. Are there any divers on this board? I think I'll make a poll out of this. Are you a scuba diver?

I'm a certified diver but haven't done it for years. Always preferred snorkeling.

Hi Everyone
Have been diving since I was 15 (so that is quite a few years). Have been advanced open water cert, divemaster cert and have dived in some nice spots, including the Red Sea. Goal is to fit the boat out with a Hookah and dive ALL DAY, when I finally get to cruise to the islands. John |

Yes, I'm a NAUI certified diver...
...who just got back into it after a lot of years doing other things.
Was diving on Saturday (4-26) in Lake Fenton, trying out my new Drysuit in 41 degree lake water. Works great, only my hands got cold and wet! Have about $2000 invested in new and used equipment in the last year and a half, the dry suit being the biggest single expense.

We were PADI certified a few years ago. We went diving in the Florida Keys, spent 10 days diving Bonaire (heaven) and also did some diving in the BVI's. Then we bought the cruising sailboat & we haven't had a chance to dive since. We took our gear to the Keys this past month intending to buy tanks & weight belts.
But some fellow cruisers extolled the virtues of hookah & we didn't go ahead & buy our tanks. We're trying to decide if we want tanks or an Airline or Brownie hookah unit for the boat..... decisions, decisions! -- Jan |

Yup, a diver with PADI M.S.D certification.
Been working on my Divemaster for a few years, but too lazy to train for that pesky open water swim test. Not been very busy diving since we bought the boat some 4.5 years ago. Like to dive the wall of St. Croix's Salt River. Also done Cozumel and a bunch of lakes in Texas. Would like to dive more and all that, but uh, got to quit smoking again... Soon. Have tried the third lung or whatever that little Honda engine with a compressor on an inner tube is called. Nice little set-up, but kind of noisy. Been thinking about attaching a dive compressor to the Perkins 4-108 on meh boat, but not sure if it can be done, space is one problem, so is cost and plumbing etc... Anybody else tried that...? |

I'm open water certified, have been for quite a number of years. Don't do much diving now, just dive to clean the bottom of my boat. I use a small .75hp electric compressor with a 50' air hose, works quite well.

Love to dive
Ahoy Divergirl,
Yes,I'm a PADI certified diver. I love to go diving, but haven't had the opportunities to go near as ofter as I would like to.Most of the time I sail single-handed,but I won't dive alone. So, usually I just snorkle.During a recent trip from Key West to the Dry Tortugas,I got to do some really good snorkling around the old coal station pilings, and the Fort Jefferson moat. There was a huge variety of fish and corals there. I was told by others that there are some excellent dive sites close by also.I'm fascinated with everything about the sea.I set up a 150 gallon salt water tank in my home to help me feel more connected with the ocean when I'm away from it. I've been experimenting with propagating (growing) corals. It's given me a whole new appreciation of how all the sea systems are linked together, and how they also directly effect our life on shore. One can not survive without the other. Welcome aboard the "Cruisers Forum." I'm pretty new here myself. |
