Hi My name is Bill and I'm a boat addict. I recently completed putting what I hope are the finishing touches on a cold molded, 41' Alden gaff schooner that I spent the last 17 years building. Actually, it goes back even further than that. In 1983, while my wife and I were house hunting, we found a fixer-upper that also had enough property on which I could fulfill my lifelong dream to build a boat. But first I had to rebuild the house. That's all behind me now and for the past two years that the boat's been in the water, we've been cautiously taking her out on Long Island Sound where I live to learn how to handle her. I've sailed sporadically most of my life, but mostly on boats much smaller than this one so there's definitely a learning curve. Anyhow, here I am and I look forward to speaking to, and hearing and learning from you guys.

Hi Paul. My boat, Tao, is also moored in PJ harbor. I'm the schooner with the dark green hull at the extreme NE end of the field. I'm also on the board of directors of LISEC. We are the group that has just built the timber framed boat shop just to the east of the new Village Community Center (just east of Danford's) Google LISEC. I can be found working on the boat shop wed. and sat. mornings.

I have a shitload (oops) of 35mm photos that I took while Tao was a-building, and some digital ones of her after she was launched, but being computer illiterate, I don't know how to to post them. Maybe my 8 year old granddaughter can show me.

Hey Bill. Welcome aboard and congrats on the build!!

Well the digitals you should be able to pull them off the camera pretty easily. Uploading them should be pretty simple too although I don't know what the size limits are for this forum. Another option would be to upload them to a photo storage site like photobucket.com. It doesn't cost anything to get an account and you put pics there and share them. If you need help with it send me a Private Message (PM) and I'll gladly help you out if I can. The 35mm pics would have to be scanned. Do you have (or know someone with) a scanner?

Welcome aboard! Only 17 years? You are a speed demon aren't you? I've been at it longer, but I do finally have the house built (only trim and paint left).

I am in awe of the concept of building house and fixing boat as a joint project.

I used to get an enormous barrage of abuse for the dust and detrius of a bookshelf build. Although I have solved that problem now!
