American in Dubai

Hi all,
I have been a member here for years but couldn't post because of my location at the time, Angola. I have moved to dubai and just completed my day skipper course and had a blast. Long term plans are to buy a 50-55ft boat and do some long range cruising. We are looking at passport 51 or an oyster 53. But probably not for a couple years as we have three kids getting ready for college.

Welcome aboard Brookiesailor. You might want to PM Saucy Sailoress - she hung out in that area of the world for some years.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Welcome aboard! I lived in Dubai for 10 years and in fact, my eldest son still lives there. It is actually a good location for sailing with consistent winds although the summer weather and high salinity is very hard on boats. You will probably want to join DOSC even though there is a certain level of snobbery that exists among some of the members. Enjoy your time in Dubai. Its a fun place to live!

I am really enjoying Dubai. Wind is perfect, so is the water, just lacking in destinations as everything is an exclusion zone. Application to DOSC is in the works....
