Aloha from the SF Bay Area (Oakland)!

Hello, All.

My name is Michael. I am 53 year-old divorced dad of very sound mind and body, who is smitten again --this time I think permanently-- by 'the call of the sea'. Am currently devouring book after book on seamanship, sail boats, and the vast Pacific, particularly the South Seas. I'd love to meet folks in the Bay Area (or headed here) who are avid sailors and who might need a helping hand or simply want to meet.

When I lived in Hawaii as a youth I sailed a bit. I have also sailed (motored mainly) through the Bosphorous and into the Black Sea to Bulgaria. But it has been awhile. So I am basically a newbie who is comfortable on a boat and the ocean.

My plan is to learn as much as I can, then buy a boat, and after a few years of shorter trips, cross the Pacific for a good long run. (I am determined; it is soon or never.)

I am self-employed, so my time is very flexible.

SF Bay is one of the best sailing locations in the world. You can experience every sailing condition from a full gale to ghosting in an afternoon daysail for half the year. There are plenty of places to explore and you can even play catch with the Giants anchored out off the stadium. Have fun.
