Aloha from Oahu

Hello everyone,

Well as you can tell I'm new to the forum. I'm also pretty green when it comes to sailing, something I hope to change in the near future. I'm a 30 year old male, just moved back to Oahu after a few years in the army. originally from New Hampshire. Eventually, someday down the road I hope I'm able to set sail myself and make it around the world. It could be in 2 years or 10. I imagine it's something most people would love to do. I hope with the help of this forum and the sailors out there I can get out there on the open ocean. So if anybody is looking for someone to crew and willing to teach me a little here and there, I'm ready and willing!

Aloha!

Do any of the Army rec centers have sailing instruction or boat rentals? I know MCAS Kaneohe (Community Services) does.

Aloha Waikiki Yacht has an adult sailing program. You may want to check in to it, it would also give you a chance to meet people who may be looking for crew. Friday night the beer can races may also beable to get a ride then.

Good to have you here. Gudgeon's suggestion is a good one.
Thanks for your service.
If you still have military privileges any of the MWR offices can steer you to sailing classes. I used to teach at Pearl Harbor and know they still offer them. Hickam used to but they may have combined.
Good luck in your new pursuit.

Try Hawaii Yacht Club too. Take a cooler with beer for the Friday night races and see if you can flag down someone who needs crew.
