Aloha from Hawaii!

Hello everyone, I have been out of the loop for a bit, so I figured I should reintroduce myself. I go by Cliche', I have been dreaming for two years now of sailing, living aboard and the freedom associated with them. After two years of drooling over yacht world, craigslist, and many books, just last week I purchased my first sailboat. Quest is a ketch rigged, 1957, 43' Newporter. I am absolutely in love with her. I have been living aboard for about a week and the challenges began immediately, but I am adapting to the floating lifestyle, and can hardly believe I ever used to enjoy the land. Thank you all for the support, knowledge, and passion that we share.
-Cliche' out

Aloha Cliche. I lived on the Big Island for about 7 years. 2002-2009. You must be on Oahu.

Re: Aloha from Hawaii!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Celestial and I lived pretty close to each other here on the Big Island and he has invited me to crew a couple times aboard his boats.
Hope you enjoy your Newporter. I'd been aboard one on Oahu many years ago but never got to sail on her. She was a beauty located in Pearl Harbor.
Good to have you posting here. Which marina are you berthed in?
kind regads,

Currently Alawai, but I will be transient, thank you for the warm welcome, I am so very excited to be starting what should be the adventure of a lifetime! All my land lubber friends think I'm crazy lol. Well I got a lot of cleaning and organizing to do on her still. Are you still on hawaii?

that's one way to get the roaches out. Turn the boat upside-down and shake them out. Serious...bomb every 7-10 days to break their cycle. Do it about 4 times, otherwise you will be chasing them for life.

So I finally got the registration transfered into my name yesterday, took over 10 hours split between two or three days driving between DLNR and the harbor master's office, such a headache. Right after the harbor master received the fax saying it was legally my boat, he informed me I was illegally moored in a slip that wasn't mine and that they would start fining me today.
:rolls eyes:

She is cored with ply, but yes fiberglass, she was more than likely seriously overhauled. Just moved slips, next to a couple buddies, pretty excited!

Hawaii DLNR-Boating is the enemy and not to be trusted. They'll pick your pocket and kick you off the pier every chance they get.

Good luck in finding a great slip and a wonderful marina.

kind regards,

Re: Aloha from Hawaii!

Cliche,
Did she ever have another name? She looks so much like the Newporter 40 my friend refurbished.
kind regards,
