Ahoy Mates, from a Total 'Lubber

I'm not really sure what to say (and if you knew me you would know how rare that is, lol) I have absolutely zero sailing experience, but there are only 2 things higher on my "bucket list". I am divorced and my son turns 18 in another year, so I guess it is time to start thinking about learning to sail. Of course, I would need to move, lol. I just turned 48, I spent 6 years in the Navy (maybe I should have learned then?), honestly, I don't know what else to say. A friend of mine wanted me to join this forum, (she knows that I have always wanted to learn to sail,) because she wanted me to post a recipe of mine in the no refridgeration recipe thread. Anyway, I really don't know what else to say, so if anyone wants to know more, just ask!

Welcome Gonzo
Where are you located...perhaps we have some members in the area that could take you sailing.
Seems from the time you posted you might be east!
Are you also thinking about buying a boat?
What did you do in the navy?
That would be a start!

Thanks James - The reason I would have to move to learn to sail is because I live in Tucson...not much sailing around here. I just posted at this time because I don't sleep.

Don't worry. As you get into sailing, you'll have a LOT to say, and ask. The more you learn, the more you know you need to ask. Stick around and have fun!

Aloha Gonzo and welcome aboard!
Thanks for serving in the Navy. Lots of us vets here.
I recommend a book called "Start Sailing Right!" for just the basics. Not a lot of glossy megayacht photos but it teaches you what you need to know to make a boat go safely.
regards,
