Ahoy from Oahu!

27 and I finally just bought my first sailboat. A 1975 42' westsail she is a beauty but needs some work. I am new to the sailing word so looking through this forum as given me a lot of insight to many things. I look forward to learn from experience of other sailors.

Re: Ahoy from Oahu!

Aloha and welcome aboard!

That's a heck of a big first boat. I'm here on the Big Island so if I can refer you to anyone over there on Oahu that I've dealt with some 25 years ago then let me know. I have a friend on a Baba 30 somewhere near Keehi that's been in most the yards and marinas around so if you need a phone number let me know.

I guess I should have asked if you've been on the islands long? You might know everyone already.

kind regards,

Re: Ahoy from Oahu!

Wow, welcome! When you go for a first boat you really swing for the fence. Now when you say "needs some work" what are you referring to? On a boat that big "some" work could be "a lot" of money and time. But it can be a lot of fun. You sure got yourself a substantial cruiser though. I'd say get a small, fun boat to learn how to really sail in, and with a Westsail 42, your fun little sports car boat can double as your dinghy.
