I sit and write this while on my last day of a 4 day mini vacation in Ocean Shores, WA looking over the Pacific and listening to the sound of waves crashing through my windows. The sea is calling me back after a short 20 years of being away. I have been reading your forum and I am so glad to have found this. It is a priceless resource. I hope to be in my new sailing rig within 2-3 years. As I would call myself a rusty captain and I am attending the ASA courses out of Anacortes and taking the 4 day course that takes you to Bareboat level. I have experience in both sail and power but more so on the power side. I have held my 60 ton master small craft (Canadian Coast Guard) as well as my whitesail CYA level 3. (Also Canadian) Biggest boat sailed was a 32 foot cutter. Grew up on the great lakes in Canada and spent many a day on the water on the St Clair River in Ontario. Was in the sea cadets and later the Navy Reserves and spent a good amount of time crusing the west coast (BC) during the summers. Well now I live here (Seattle) and these awesome crusing grounds are at my doorstep and they call me once again. I am searching for something in the 40-45 foot range. I am drawn to a ketch rig for reasons stated many times in the forum. I am in learning mode and welcome (and need) all the help I can get. I fully intend on returning to my crusing grounds in Desolation Sound and even further north. As well I have goals of sailing somewhere warm in the winter months. Its going to take a bit of confidence to get me to go to places like Hawaii. Maybe in 10 years.

Anyways, enough ramble. I am sincerely appreciative of all of you having me on here and I hope to participate in some discussions. When I actually nail a few boats down I am going to need your advice and take you along every step of the way.

By wisdom are you referring to the Lambs Navy or the Bacardi? A tall dark and dirty was always my choice. lol

Although I have no doubt that having a horse on board would be useful driving winches and capstans and stuff, I'm wondering where you would keep it unless you plan on building an Ark?...

Cowboy, I've never actually heard the term "Lambs Navy", what is that? You would think being a non-com in the Navy I'd have heard.

oic, never had it before. My one trip to the Caribean was a week trip to the Dominican, where we took a catamaran day trip which is when I was bitten by the cat bug. No, I was in the US Navy. Although, I would be more than willing to serve time in the Lamb's Navy.

I would no doubt entertain the idea of an ark and have a couple steeds that would actually enjoy the trip but I will be damed if I'm gonna bring the hay recyclers anywhere near my boat. I have to spend 1/2 the year with them as it is. The other half gives my butt a rest and allows it to reshape back into a butt again.

The Lambs Navy was a fine Navy indeed. If your ever in Canada and have the chance pick up gallon I think you would find it very pleasing and fitting.
