A lurker lingers

I've been lurking here for almost a year, so I guess it's time for an introduction. My name is Louise. My husband Sean and I are planning to purchase a trawler in about 3-4 years.

We currently live full-time in a bus that has been converted to an RV and are living our dream of exploring North America. As we travel, we see so many places that only a boat can access and we're looking forward to taking our travels global and watery when we're done with the bus.

There are many parallels between the boating and RV communities, especially the full-timer/live-aboard similarities. Many of the systems are equivalent, as well. We often found just what we needed for our 24volt bus through marine companies (Princess stove, NovaCool fridge, Webasto boiler, etc.) We are also gaining invaluable experience dealing with a cranky 20-year-old Detroit diesel engine!

While my husband has many years of sailing experience, I am a relative newbie. I do know that I love being on the water, I love being in motion, I love exploring new areas, and I love the feeling of being self-contained and self-sufficient.

I've been enjoying this forum. The level of discourse seems *generally* to be quite intelligent, with a minimum of flaming and jingoistic BS. I learned way back before Al Gore invented the Internet that bulletin board posting archives can and do last for more years than one's uppity feelings, so discretion is the better part of valor. Better to be silent and right than to have one's impassioned, but ultimately wrong, diatribes chiseled in gallium arsenide for all eternity. Which is a very wordy way to say I'm going back to lurking

Aloha Louise,
Welcome aboard!! Hope you won't hold back when you have some constructive comments. I really enjoy this forum and didn't lurk nearly as long as you did. I just had too many questions which were answered very intelligently. Almost everyone here is willing to help with a problem. Great forum.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Welcome aboard Louise. Good choice on a trawler! We're in the minority here so hang tough!
