We are in a doubleender too. Many of them are easy on they eye, if you come from the older generation of consumers.

Happy sailing!

I have owned a 36 Mao Ta for two years now. I've yet to find anyone else that has one that they're not trying to sale and only two of those. Looks like you bought or traded for the one in Key Largo. Congrats. Hope you and your wife are having as much fun as we are, Scott.

Congrats. We are waiting for a work contract to end, and then we are headed south. Hopefully around Feb or March.

I would suggest editing your post and removing your email address and phone number. This forum is searchable from search engines and is available to all. Unless of course you like span and unsolicited calls.

If you want to send this info to somebody, I would suggest using a PM instead.

I saved your # and email if you want to delete the post. Click on my profile name and it takes you to my profile and there is an album entitled Mesmariah with 11 pics. Thanks.

Knot eye! How about ewe? I was thinking about a machine, not a human.

Re: 36' Mao Ta double ended cutter sloop

Hi to Mao Ta 74 - 'Anhelo'

This is my first post here and I need to organise my profile.

I bought a Mao Ta 36' cutter 1983 last year - 'Bliss' out of Houston, Texas. She has been in Corpus Christi marina for years and saw very little sailing with the previous owner. Her asking price was $40000 and I paid $35000 although I definitely overpaid in today's market. I'm doing a lot of work but Bliss is essentially seaworthy.

I'm now aware of 'Paradox' Virginia, Anhelo in Florida, Mesmariah in Houston and Bliss in CC. There is also Time and Tide that sold for ? less than 12000 which is a major, major restoration project and is still up on the hard as far as I know. One Mao Ta 36 sold in England about 2 years ago - name unknown.

Bliss and Mesmariah may be sister ships as Bliss was imported into Houston and 'assembled' there at the John Alden concern. She was mislabelled as an Alden 36 cutter for years on her official papers. It is said that Bliss never had teak decks. Sadly the teak is nonexistent in the cockpit although reduced maintenance may be a blessing. She has two Bomar hatches but not the wooden Butterfly hatch, Again - possibly a blessing. I'll try to post a picture but I guess an album under my profile might be best.

Last time I went sailing, I snapped the starboard aft chainplate which was severely corroded at the rail caulk and could not have been detected by the survey - Beware!
