OK I had a brick but it was a step up from the old radio telephone
I also know the difference between Beta and VHS Video and a laser disc
I know that an 8 track tape was not the number of songs you could get on one and that a cassette tape was smaller and could hold more tunes

I forgot, I too had a radio telephone, & a King radio in my work truck. Sure don't miss the horn going off when getting a call. That got me the finger a lot. Funny now that I think about those times...Michael..

My father purchased it for himself and my mother gave him heck for spending so much! She really let him have it, as we were NOT at all rich.

My first radio was a crystal set. It didn't work.

The first transceiver I used was an ex wwII valve one. It didn't work either.

First rifle I fired was a wwII vintage .303 Lee Enfield. It worked. Nearly took my shoulder off! No damage was done to the target.

Our cadet uniforms were ex wwI.

My pocket money was 2 shillings. Brought a lot of threepenny bit chocolate bars.

My farther wanted me to shovel up manure from behind the ice man's horse. I refused. My first rebellion.

My first country train ride was behind a steam locomotive in NZ. I got permission to ride with the driver but my mother wouldn't let me as I might get dirty. Instead I stuck my head out a window and got a cinder in my eye.

My first radio that could transmit was a Knight-Kit T60, about 1963. 60 watts CW and AM and frequency was crystal controlled by plug in crystals. $49.95 and had to build it. Heath Kits were too expensive for my budget back then.

Ahh I know some of ya remember The BIG radios we used to have aboard our boats way back then ! LOL Heck ya could talk all up and down the west coast at most anytime !! LOL none of that VHF stuff then !! than the GOV said these were to good LOL so we could keep them till we sold the boat or it broke LOL so then we started to use ssbs and even some guys had ham sets but no Lics LOL it would still get ya help if ya really needed it !!! And how bout the Loran from airplanes where ya had to count the ridges and peaks to get a position! Ahh Im so old we used a lead line for a long time before the Spinners came out !! Ahh good old bad days !!!

My old Zenith Transoceanic from 1976 still works as good as ever. Used it for time hacks so my noon sights would be correct. So some of you started before me! I imagine there was a real Mitchener flavor to things - I must say that IMHE sailing in Caribbean was a much sweeter place in the '70's than it is today.....
