Ya Never Really Can Tell

I do charity functions at the Elks, and hit to ocean for the occasional fishing trip with out the family
A friend who's a retire Sheriffs Deputy would help me out, most always join me for fishing, and we'd buy each other drinks when we'd hook up at bars.
This has gone on for 20 + years.

He was the nicest person. An amazing person is more like it the kids tell me.
The room would light up when he entered.
Brutally handsome in his 50 something years.

He passed away Sunday night from Pancreatic cancer.
He was a patient of my wifes and she hung out with him until the end.

It was a tough passing for us all.

What also blindsided us was right before he passed my wife got a call from the White House asking about his condition.
He worked for the Secret Service, and we never knew.

Re: Ya Never Really Can Tell

You never find out about people until their funeral. My mum's brother - we knew he spent time in Zanzibar after the war. At his funeral their were a lot of ex-servicemen. He use to fly Zanzibar to India by Catalina. A bloody long way in a twin engine flying boat by anyone's measure.
Nice chap too, and popular in his home town of Scarborough UK.
Never did find out what he was doing in Z after the war, he was out there for a few years.

Sad, but a wake up call to all of us to really live life. Sounds like he did.

Pancreatic cancer takes no prisoners.

Good to know the secret service still is.
