Yesterday a co-worker and I were talking about sailing on the Chesapeake Bay
year round. We are both from Michigan where taking your boat out in winter means saving it from being crushed in ice. Here there is nothing like that. She used to sail year round, that is until Hurricane
Isabel deep sixed her boat.
Earlier this week I was talking to a marina owner and got the distinct impression he did not think much of sailing year round; put the boats on the hard
for the winter. On the hard
4 to 6 months seems silly. The weather
is rarely nasty and cold; and if it does have some thick whiteish rain in it, that only lasts for a few days too.
