Wind's gusting 60 tonight.

Hi Forum,

We're at 52-30, 140-30 tonight, heading from Seattle to Dutch Harbor. I'm watching the anemometer hanging in the upper 40's, low 50's. The unit shows a high gust of 110, but that's probably a glitch.

Anyway, it's a pretty dirty night out here with all this wind and a big sea on the beam. CF to the rescue! It's a pretty good escapist tool when needed. It's a good reminder of the sailboat that's waiting once the freedom chips are earned.

We'll be back out sailing in April. Off to Ireland/Scotland/Norway for our next cruise. Maybe we'll cross paths with one or two of you.

Good sailing to all.

Well, no cuddling until I get home. Nothing but big, smelly guys on board here.... Not the cuddling type.

However, we did take a pilothouse window out and flood the bridge with a big sea a couple of years ago, and 2 of these big, tough guys were discovered to be holding each other in fear. I guess they thought they were goners. We're still chuckling about that one.

You're sailing to Dutch Harbour in January

The only thing I would want to take up there at this time of year is a Los Angeles Class SSN Submarine.

He TJD....what kind of commercial boat are you on?

Years back i would head that way from Canada for the Herring season on a 172' packer

Yes, sailing (well, motoring) to Dutch in January! This is the 21st time I've made the outbound trip in January, believe it or not.

The commercial trawl fisheries open at noon on January 20th. These are the boats targeting Pollock, Cod, and flatfish. There are quite a few of us out here crossing now.

I'm skipper on a 170' trawler.

Well, thanks for liking cod. If it wasn't for the people who want to eat these fish, we wouldn't get to go catch them...
Works for everyone.

The proper fish and chips in London used to be wrapped in newspaper, that was stopped some years ago for health concerns.

A proper chip shop in London is usually run by a Pakistani...

Indeed it was. Down on A dock most of the time.

Nice place, by the way. As long as you have lots of chafing gear, and plenty of lines and fenders. That Patriot's point marina is pretty exposed. I lost count of how many wakes washed right over the docks.

But, the surrounding area makes up for this small drawback.

In other news, the wind's dropped to about 35 out here. Damn seas are still huge, though.

My wife and I met your wife. She's a lovely woman. Tell her hello from the crew of Scotland. And, you have a beautiful boat.
