I just did a search for your name on CF but nothing came up for past thread starts. Were you posting under a different handle? The mods would have no reason to remove phone numbers from your pm box or delete a thread for that fact. The only thing I have ever seen them do is stop a thread.

Re: Why you should never give up on dreams.

Nearlife, just let the nay sayers nay. You do not need to explain yourself to anyone( period). Can't fake wisdom, and that is what I read. This internet forum is a place to exchange experiences, ideas, and yes, fantasies.
Hell, we are a bunch of sailors, WE ARE DREAMERS, tall stories abound. You may be the next Tristan Jones, most people thought he was uh er stretching his sea stories. But he didn't care about the talk, he was too busy having adventures, writing books, having a life.
Find your boat, go play.

Ocean Girl

PS
Free boats abound, but sometimes, most times, it's cheaper to buy.

Somehow, the very effort of having put my shoulder to the wheel makes boat ownership all that more fulfilling. Work is good, and if you don't think so, then change what you're working on. Hell, find an old wreck of a boat and work on restoring her.

Probably my Protestant work ethic bubbling to the surface.....

Pragmatic when boots on the ground? Yes , my point exactly! How do you fit that with disinterested dreamer? Totally antinomic for me
The guy is a fake.

Alec out.
My take is that folks can be both a dreamer and a pragmatist (as well as a squillion other things). Sometimes they conflict, sometimes they don't. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on how we have read OP . But probably on the same page in that neither of us will be sending a boat .

Anyway, unless OP comes back to stir the pot I think I have pretty much flogged this dead horse of a thread as much as I can be bothered to .

Ah, the sweet bird of youth! Can't fake wisdom, eh? Few others found any wisdom in his words; certainly nothing that hasn't been exploited by charlatons, con men, and grifters in the recent and distant past. Fervor and zeal are their weapons. Rejoice, OG, someone will give him a boat cuz people are like that.

Frankly, it wasn't the words but the spirit of it

I've seen it too many times, been recipient of, random acts of kindness that defy all cynicism. Besides, what's the worst could happen here, someone gives a guy a boat? Are we upset he might get a free boat, or that if he does, he doesn't deserve it. Gotta tell you, few in this world deserve anything, but we get it anyways. That's the beauty of it all. Don't know this guy, will never know him, but I wish him the best, just like I wish the best for you

Cheers,
Erika

PS
Thanks for saying sweet bird of youth, its so much kinder than the alternative

Re: Why you should never give up on dreams.

I'm just so lost here!

Seems mainly about poking others with a stick and that it is getting to that magical point where people realize it is even more effective to sharpen the end of the stick to a point.

Good one Don. Little doubt I deserved it. Erika's post was kind and beautiful.

It makes me think that someone with a good heart is sticking up for a beggar.

Recipients of random acts of kindness are typically not out begging for free stuff.

Wrapping the request for a free boat in dreamer speak reminds me of self mutilation by the beggars in India.

After reading some of these replies, I get the mental image of the OP sitting back eating popcorn
