Nice try.
Ah. So the US achieved its independence because each individual, acting alone, cleared THEIR land of the British overlords. No organization, no consensus, no goals or policies, no common purpose. Ok then.

The founding documents of the USA, The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are not based on or about some commie, coming together crapola.

Read them and see for yourself... They're about the exact opposite, freedom from tyranny and oppression...

Oppression, like a one world type Socialist government and the alarmists telling everyone what to do and demanding unnecessary carbon (tea) taxes.

Now let's get back to the original subject matter. What new technologies will the future bring to make the current worriers about global warming forget about it... And stop worrying about some sort of human-based apocalyptic meltdown?

tricky one, a technology which allows a system to continue which isn't in equilibrium and is reliant on non sustainable resources (not just energy) ...

Perpetual motion machines

True rose coloured glasses

Pie in the sky

Virtual reality - blocks out the real thing

Real big band-aids

Those would be a start.

Re: Why Climate Change Won't Matter in 20 Years

OK here's an interesting one I heard the other day. Now I can't substantiate this except to take the word of a bussiness owner. A friend of mine owns the local vessel assist here in Tacoma. Last weekend he responded to a call for help. A person had holed their wood hulled vessel on ice near point defiance in southern Puget sound. They limped into Gig Harbour where the vessel sank at the dock. No lives lost no serious injuries. The rt that caught me was the claim of ice doing that damage. We rarely see temps that freeze sea water even if it weren't moving.

I suspect the ice was in a rum and coke.

I would expect to see that story on Three Sheets Northwest or Latitude 48

Re: Why Climate Change Won't Matter in 20 Years

Welcome to the Anthropocene

Quote:
Human activity is leaving a pervasive and persistent signature on Earth. Vigorous debate continues about whether this warrants recognition as a new geologic time unit known as the Anthropocene. We review anthropogenic markers of functional changes in the Earth system through the stratigraphic record. The appearance of manufactured materials in sediments, including aluminum, plastics, and concrete, coincides with global spikes in fallout radionuclides and particulates from fossil fuel combustion. Carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycles have been substantially modified over the past century. Rates of sea-level rise and the extent of human perturbation of the climate system exceed Late Holocene changes. Biotic changes include species invasions worldwide and accelerating rates of extinction. These combined signals render the Anthropocene stratigraphically distinct from the Holocene and earlier epochs.
The Anthropocene is functionally and stratigraphically distinct from the Holocene

You still do not see temperatures cold enough to freeze sea water.

More or less describes my situation, and I would guess the majority of people subscribed to this thread. Except for Mike, Ken, & Third Day who we know have a much smaller "footprint" because of the individual choices they have personally made. Is this starting to sink in, L-E?

But Jack is probably doing better than I am on his recycling efforts. In my locale, it takes more fossil fuels to transport the recyclables to a processing center than it saves by keeping it out of the local landfill. But I think most people comply with the recycling requirements anyway, including me. Maybe over time, and as more people recycle, it will attract a processing center closer to the area. But as of now, the recycling efforts in my area are a net loss to the environment.

But Jack's list of things he does to help the environment also help him save money, and are therefore consistent with what much of the population does. Homes are now better insulated, cars are more efficient, recycling is commonplace and often mandatory, less consumption has been a feature of the anemic economic recovery over the past 8 years or so. And despite all these efforts, I'm presuming that Jack's electricity is coming from the same local power grid that is at least 80%-plus powered by fossil fuels, to say nothing of supplying his winter heating needs (natural gas, I assume?).

So with all the holier-than-thou preaching that goes on around the CC issue, there's not much offered by way of tangible, practical solutions. As others have pointed out, any such solutions have to make at least some economic sense for people to accept and implement them.
