OK Jack,

Let's not start insulting everyone from the US, we want to keep this thread going. This American ignorant dumbass (yours truly) has somehow managed with his low intellect and low ears to cruise the Mediterranean with the rich and famous six months of the year on a nurses hourly wage.

Well... there are not many Europeans in this thread, just Americans and Aussies and a handfull of Canadians (some annoying, sorry), and in this thread, there is a clear strain of "I know better than the IPCC" in the anti- comments. It ranges from serious counter-argument with valid points, all the way down to laughing dismissal... which was the tone of your thread-starter, wasn't it? And in your wanting it continue because it apparently amuses you?

I have ample evidence to know that you're a standup guy, and, having American friends and been hosted more than once at US yacht clubs, I KNOW firsthand the generosity, courage and openness of Americans. When there's a problem somewhere, the first hands reaching out are usually American.

So, I'm really sad that the issue of AGW has only triggered an anti-intellectual backlash of denial/dismissal, instead of your enthusiasm and abilities in the face of a common problem. I can only guess that the well-spread suggestions that the science is suspect or corrupt, or that AGW is the thin edge of a soshulist wedge, has appealed to you more than the straight-up science, which can admittedly be hard to see sometimes in the din of advocates for and against.

I don't know what more can go into this thread these 3 threads. Everything has been said, more than once. If there was some way to splice the last comment to lead to the first again, the thread would run itself and we could all just sit back and watch.

Sorry about the editing of your original post here. My original thread post was to get the discussion going regarding the article discussing the irrelevance global warming will become over the next 100 years. Nothing to do with denial vs alarmist.

Regarding my nationality... I have dual citizenship Canadian and US, so you can have me as an "annoying" Canadian friend or as a "generous, courageous and open" American friend... Take your pick.

That is exactly what denialist vs alarmist entails.

Global warming is relevant, especially to our descendants. Ironically I will have none.

Also ironically the two biggest emitters of GHGs are among the least concerned.

Ah yes, those that fail to conform must just be dumb & ill-informed. No other possible explanation, really. And btw, you must be ALL IN to be considered smart. No room for doubters, skeptics, cynics, deniers, or even questioners when the intellectual elite has pronounced its wisdom on behalf of the rest of us. Even liberals who question AGW need not apply, nor those who accept AGW but disagree with some of its prescribed remedies.

Hate to nit-pick again L-E, but bad spelling can make one look . . . errrrr . . . not smart?

The Canadian side of your nationality is no doubt smarter.

I've always believed that actions speak much louder than words or "cut an paste." So... I'd like to propose that all North Americans and Europeans concerned about Global Warming and it's future effect on the planet, actively demonstrate their true belief and desire to fight this threat by immediately turning off the heating systems to their homes and businesses for the remainder of the winter and ride a bicycle to work like the Danes.

Exile and I will demonstrate our commitment to the warming of our planet by turning our home heating system up by 2 degrees and warming up our cars.

To do otherwise, would be considered hypocritical... no?

Funny how the title of the article claims "Broad Support for Limiting Emissions" but then confirms the median average at just over 50%. The U.S & China are the largest emitters because they are the largest producers.

Oh no, does this mean I have to remove the "Prius-Repellant" sticker on the back of my diesel pickup truck? I want to own a Bobcat like yours when I grow up.

Re: Why Climate Change Won't Matter in 20 Years

It's a new year.
The mods should change the thread title to,

"Why Climate Change Won't Matter in 19 Years".

The way it looks now, this thread will still be going...

Democracy is a messy business, is it not? I mean letting all those anti-intellectuals have a say in how they would like to be governed and everything. Probably best to dispense with it and go back to authoritarian rule. Gov't. by the intellectual elite no doubt.

Btw, didn't I recently read where the scientific community is now questioning how bad certain fats & cholesterols really are for us? Haven't the harmful effects of such foods in our diet been accepted as fact by the scientific consensus for the past couple of decades or so? Hmmmm . . . a couple of decades is 20 years, the same time frame the op-ed Ken posted suggests CC may no longer be an issue for us either.

Maybe you can have your cake and eat it too by superinsulating your house/building/boat to:

Roof: R-60
Walls: R-40
Basement Wall: R-20
Basement Slab: R-10
Windows: R-5

install an air-to-air heat/ventilation recovery system

seal against airleaks to 1 air exchange per hour at 50 pascals air pressure

(working from faulty memory)

What's confounding to some guys about you Ken, is that you defy the neat little labels & upset the stereotypical thinking. Dual-citizenship, dual-lifestyle, fancy boat on working wages, not satisfied with merely weekends & holidays off. And who knows, maybe a dual-personality?? No matter, you question the science on CC, therefore . . . .
