The last time I checked, this is my thread, and I like talking about coral, fishies and those cute little puffins that fly away to places where us humanoids won't pester them by playing with their eggs.

So no.... I'll stick around and continue to cheerleader for global warming.

Retired 13 years ago to teach sailing.

So you will not / cannot complete the task.

Figures.

I gather that your thread is just trolling. I have better things to do than deal with such nonsense and being the brunt of personal attacks from your compradres.

Off to visit relative for a couple of days.

Complete the task? Spoken like a true schoolmarm. Kenomac has merely created an immensely popular forum that strikes more nerves than a climate scientists finger up a puffin's ass.

Now, the original post referenced this article, good to read for a re-positioning of the debate. More to do with the wisdom or not of long term predictions, I do recall a post referencing Alvin Tofler... strangely, we haven't all died of starvation, who could have guessed?

I think this thread would keep generations of undergraduate psychology students busy

Lewandowsky would love it.

He has a new publication

Quote:
Highlights

We identified representative claims about data made by climate contrarians.

Experts evaluated these claims translated into an economic context for accuracy and credibility.

The contrarian claims were found to be misleading in this blind test.

Mainstream scientific interpretations of the same data were found to be accurate in the blind test.
A blind expert test of contrarian claims about climate data

A blind expert test of contrarian claims about climate data
I just checked the abstract:

Quote:
Abstract
Although virtually all experts agree that CO2 emissions are causing anthropogenic global warming, public discourse is replete with contrarian claims that either deny that global warming is happening or dispute a human influence. Although the rejection of climate science is known to be driven by ideological, psychological, and political factors rather than scientific disagreement, contrarian views have considerable prominence in the media. A better understanding of contrarian discourse is therefore called for. We report a blind expert test of contrarian claims about climatological variables. Expert economists and statisticians were presented with representative contrarian statements (e.g., “Arctic ice is recovering”) translated into an economic or demographic context. In that blind test, contrarian claims were found to be misleading. By contrast, mainstream scientific interpretations of the data were judged to be accurate and policy relevant. The results imply that media inclusion of contrarian statements may increase bias rather than balance.
Ok I stand corrected: This keeps professors of psychology busy.

wow, that sums up this thread her pretty accurate.

Btw. Stephan Lewandowsky is an Australian psychologist. He has worked in both the USA and Australia, and is currently based at the University of Bristol, UK, where he is the chair in cognitive psychology at the School of Experimental Psychology. (Wikipedia 2016)
Careful, Adoxo. Posts & links from Jack now require more scrutiny. Summaries of Lewandowsky's previous works read like they are right out of Jack's & L-E's one-sided playbooks, i.e. characterizing the actual science as much more settled & certain than many scientists actually believe, and then ascribing the same sorts of non-science based motivations to justify skeptical views by non-scientists. I sense some personal bias rather than objectivity, and not the kind that comes from which church he may or may not belong. Teaming up with skepticalscience.com founder John Cook who came up with the bogus "97% consensus" meme raises questions, at least for me. But judge for yourself.

Re: Why Climate Change Won't Matter in 20 Years

The last few posts prove that the study ( and not solving perceived issues) of MMGW is about money and the making thereof by many fields of study. ( not just climatology) .

Climate Change Predictions
Can't help thinking that the reason this CC thread has been so popular and drawn such ire is the title and consequent theme. If, after all, CC won't matter in 20 years because of new technologies, then the diehard CC advocates won't matter either. And when it comes to self-virtue, saving the whales, reefs, ozone, soil, oceans, air, water, etc. pales in comparison to saving the entire planet and all of its inhabitants. All very much worthy causes mind you, and ones which many if not most people certainly care about, but aren't generally so personally wrapped up in.

Then again, the popularity of the thread could simply be the Ferrari's, cartoons, fancy sailboats, and occasional smoke bomb Keno enjoys tossing into the room from time to time (and slamming the door on his way out).

Follow the money of the MMGW cult and you will find a pot of Gold along with the power to control the population at the end of their rainbow.

Flash-Bang tossed....

Now come on...we can believe a lot of things, but certainly not this lie.
Without you and LE...this thread would have a shortage of MMGW Cultist posts.

Lucky I had swallowed my mouthful of coffee just before I read that.

That one wins the post of month!
