While said as a Joke...you will note that many in the MMGWC movement actually do call for letting people in developing Countries DIE to curb the population. They are Big into Margret Sanger and her Eugenics movement. How did the good people of Germany fall for a Mad Man and put people in ovens...Propaganda and Consensus!

When you have to start misrepresenting your opponents argument in order to make your own, that's a pretty good sign that you know you can't win by sticking to the facts. I'm not surprised you felt the need to go down that road though.

There's nothing magical or fairy-like about entrepreneurs moving technology forward and solving what once seemed like big or even insurmountable problems. It's happened all throughout history, including recent history. Whether or not we eventually wean ourselves off fossil fuels, that won't change the fact that at this point we simply don't know all the mechanisms that change climate over time or if we have the ability to make any significant impact on climate change or whether we even should try to avoid climate change or what the impact (or benefits) of doing nothing might be. Crying wolf louder and louder doesn't mean that you have any more insight into what our climate future looks like than anyone else does. We'll all see soon enough, but in the mean time, I just don't have time to get too worried about something I can't control and am quite sure I can easily adapt to, whether temps go up a couple of degrees or down a couple of degrees from what they are today.

Dunno what we're gonna do Boaty, except maybe quit taking ourselves so seriously. Love the new avatar photo, btw.
Please man, if you want to make a point in a conversation, do not resort to the tired old canard that government can't do anything well. It makes you sound completely unthoughtful and when you bring it out, I regard everything you say as complete B.S. Why? Any unbiased U.S. citizen, above the age of 17, could come up with a dozen examples of successful solutions implemented by the federal government in less than 20 minutes. I could do it in less than five. The Coast Guard and NOAA are obvious examples because they have been used by mariners for decades. Both agencies, by the way, are good examples of how socialistic programs are of great benefit to "free enterprise." I came up with those two examples in less than two seconds.

If you read the article, you know that the article itself had that very tone, that "don't worry, look what some genius will do in 20 even 10 years" fluff. Go back and check.

Fusion isn't going to be solved in someone's garage. The next generation of nuclear reactors won't be built by a family business (unless your last name is Siemens). Convincing the average schmuck to not buy a RAM Hemi truck to pick up groceries in won't be done by an entrepreneur (though it might be done by stopping the oil and gas subsidies and tax breaks, and pricing in the carbon load).

So, yeah, bring on the entrepreneurs. I'm a very small scale one myself. But realize that the big changes, the big projects, require government oversight and funding. It won't be entrepreneurs, it will be the citizens asking its elected government to go in this direction that will cause those things to happen.

For as long as everyone pretends that the science is bogus and everything's ok, all public work towards fixing our environmental problems will be considered suspect, just another part of your greenie soshulist conspiracy (or MMGWC), and government won't get any sort of mandate to tackle the the problems that the magic fairy entrepreneurs won't touch.

Different kind of incentive/disincentive program, but maybe not too far off. But I did have to look it up.

Ooops . . . I'm soooooo ashamed. How about the diesel version? Would that be OK?? I'll even put some MMGWC bumper stickers on it to make sure everyone knows I "belong." Or if all else fails, I can make a cash payment to your fav charity (except DonorsTrust, they're bad) for carbon credits. That'll make it all OK! I'm just soooooo ashamed.

Don't think the Soviet era was known for elected representatives who had subpoena power over executive branch govt. agencies.

I used the spelling closest to how I've heard it uttered, sorry snarled.

You alone know why you bought a big truck. I won't presume to judge without knowing the reason.
