I found the article fairly evenhanded, especially for the way it laid out the obligations of the researchers to be forthcoming and open.

What has that - advocates throwing buns at each other, basically - got to do with the article, which is referring to the people actually doing the research, and the attacks they undergo?

If your victims of choice aren't publishing peer-reviewed work... they're not in this league, they're part of the problem.
Or is it a case of the eyes seeing what the minds want it to. Remember Dr Zwally? His fair-weather peers and past supporters came out guns blazing the moment he was perceived as having stuck a toe over the line.

Pah! Easy money. Your first job will be to explain how chilling yo ass at -20C is considerably worse than sucking on a margarita at +30C. It's all about media attention via scare mongering, you see.

Yes, but only because the storm forced Congress to close down for a couple of days. Now that D.C.'s streets are starting to get cleared, we'll be returning to mediocrity in short order now.

Also, because warm air rises, the Arctic is the sitting duck for biggest change. There is also a forced feedback because it's easier for the sun to heat cooler air than it is to heat warmer air by a fixed temperature increase so the now cooler tropics also become warmer because the air gets heated more efficiently.

I know the theory may sound silly to some, but if climate change can cause both less and more snowfall, less and more temperature extremes, less and more rainfall, less and more storms and basically less and more of everything as long as it's in someway bad then I think it requires some consideration.
The theory.

Should have said further you are from equatorial waters. But in oz I guess you would need lots of ice cubes.

Re: Why Climate Change Won't Matter in 20 Years

This thread is going dormant, so I thought I would pass the following on to L-E and see if the quote reminds him of someone he knows.

“There’s a great deal of psychological research indicating that
communicating the 97% consensus
is one of the most effective ways of communicating the realities of climate change
because people use expert opinion as a heuristic or mental shortcut to guide their opinion about complicated scientific issues (plus it’s very simple and easy to communicate).”
