what's your boat been doing?

Been over a month since I last saw my boat and I wonder what it's been up to. So do you know what your boat has been doing?

little over 3 months before boating season starts (for those that can handle the cold)

Have gone out on a couple of overnight "anchor-outs" in November and December.

Decided this morning to leave the Christmas lights up until New Years. Will be sailing over to the city for fireworks, so I may as well look festive for the occasion.

My boat just had its bottom cleaned, at which point it occurred to me that the deck was dirtier than the hull thanks to all my bird friends. So I spent half an hour this morning swabbing the deck, but by sunset there were almost a dozen new spats scattered about.

Thinking of trading the cat in on a falcon. Can they be trained to reserve their droppings for yachts with paid crew?

Ours has been getting a new refrigeration system, new main sail, and (hopefully) offsetting those costs by working hard in charter service.

Thankfully we had already purchased a new sail, knowing we would need new sails in the spring before we set sail. Upgrading the refrigeration system was on our list too. I would have liked to save the labor costs, but am glad it will be done.

Smart Move is really looking forward to being released from her indentured servitude in April! We are too!

Re: what's your boat been doing?

"Callisto" is currently trying not get blown into the dock while we live aboard her in 30+ gusty knots in Boston. I saw a sad fellow shooting Woods Hole on Cape Cod today in what looked to be a 40ft C and C. It looked like he was coming in from Buzzards Bay to anchor in Woods Hole. It was blowing 40 gusting to 50 down there and was probably only 35 degrees. What he was doing, I have no idea. Sick F%&K.

Ours is awaiting us at Isle of Hope Marina, S of Savannah. Bottom clean, some minor electronics for Christmas and shortly will be headed into FL and maybe Bahamas or across to Sanibel, all good...

My vessel is 1,000 nautical miles away. Haven't seen her since Thanksgiving — the longest we've been apart in six years. But alas, I will be aboard come Saturday to celebrate the New Year. Can't wait.

Re: what's your boat been doing?

Funny you ask... just visited the boat today for the first time in a couple or three weeks. Warm and dry, sweet smelling interior, and the yanmar fired right up. Forgot to check the bilges though, and put a couple boat related Christmas pressies aboard. BTW, set a record all time high temp for this day for Vancouver... about 55 deg F.

Re: what's your boat been doing?

Still sitting in the woods where I parked it 20 months ago (see profile picture). I think we are both getting tired of the place and plan to go to the water soon.

Re: what's your boat been doing?

Mine spent most of December bringing Al and myself south on the ICW from NC to Fl. She is patiently sitting in Daytona Beach now, while we do a few things at home, then will take us to the Bahamas in January.
