Re: What Should You NOT Do on a Boat ?

- don't fall asleep when the tide is on it's way back in - with the dinghy tied to the dock, 20 foot away

- don't mix up imperial and metric measurements when measuring / ordering wood (19 mill square x 30 foot ............ended up with 30 metres (100 feet), enough to last me a few years )

- don't drill wood that's balanced on your thighs, and if you do make sure the electric drill don't slip.......otherwise you get to check whether yer penis is still there............

That's all just the last month............

Don't leave your boat in the wet tropics for 4 months with the fuel tank only 3/4 full. Precipitation will contaminate your fuel and engine. You'll break down in the middle of nowhere and drift for several days.

I wish someone had told me that one

No rabbits on board. Period.

Never leave on a voyage on a Friday.

Always make sure your PANTS are securely up before pulling the ANCHOR up, especially if there's nothing else between you and Mother Nature ...

You are so right.

You should also avoid leaving the water running then walking into town for a nice breakfast. That didn't work well either.

Now that brings back memories. I never have understood that habit, even at home.

Did a delivery years ago with a couple of green crewmembers and one of them persisted in this among other water wasting habits. Had to listen for the water pump every time she went to the head and yell to her to turn off the water. Finally had to keep the water pressure pump switched off except when OKed by the captain but still ran out about three days from FL and had to stop off in Key West just to get water.

I think you have to learn water conservation. There are a lot of tricks to if. Of course, if you only have a 20 gal. water tank, as on my boat, you learn sooner rather than later.

It can go too far. I had a friend proudly tell me that he'd managed to flush my head with 1/4 bucket of water instead of 1/2. I told him to go back and use the rest of it. His little boat didn't have a head and he didn't understand the dangers of clogging a hose. It has to make its way to the tank.

I flush with fresh water because I CANNOT stand the odor when I flush with salt water.
