"if any polemacists come around this forum when I'm on-line I'm going to sock 'em one! Right in the kisser!"

Galileo was a polemicist. He was right and pretty much every one of his contemporaries was wrong. Common 'wisdom' shouted him down and nearly had him burned at the stake. He really upset a lot of people...

The fact is that not all opinions are created equal.

Darn, Boatman! You got my number. I am an over educated intellectual. Please don't hold it against me! I'm working hard to fit in here, but can't fully hide my true self.

If it helps, I am attracted to men who are good with their hands and speak plainly.

Love,

Whew!, go play for a day and come back to pages and pages to read.
I am not talking about trolls, I hope to not get clouded up with that, this is about the down and out rudeness.

Again (without naming names), constructive feedback is fine and dandy, and is what makes this site tick. But there is a line and it isn't at all that fuzzy. I find that the "grumpy" posts seem to be about pointing out the stupidity of the person not the folly of the plan. If you are unsure whether your post is over the line then don't post the darn thing, life will go on, the planet will keep rotating. Even more amazing, the person who you think is completely incapable will also go on, some will defy your righteous judgment and do just what they were pondering to do, and some will fade away, all without your post.

I have a friend that never sailed more than a few hours. He decided one day to buy a boat and sail away (singlehand). He bought a 53ft steel hull and left, all within 6 months of first conceiving the idea. He learned as he went. People said he was crazy, said he wouldn't make outta the harbor. He ignored them and is now in the pacific having a blast. Which side do you want to be on? the folks that tried to help him figure it out along the way or the folks that stood by and did nothing but criticize? The naysayer’s are long forgotten while the encouragers are friends.

Look up the definition of sarcasm and rudness, none of it belongs here.

Cheers,
Erika

PS
I still think you all are great, even the grumpy ones.

Boatman, I burst out laughing when I saw your post. You made my day. And Galileo was a scientist who was killed for his observations and math. ( i believe) No burning at the stake here.

Commendable, and you're not alone.

One of the boats in our marina sunk, at the dock, the other day when that last tropical depression went through Florida. The boat owner lives in a different state. There wasn't a man in the marina that didn't pitch in and try to save that boat. When it sunk, we all pitched in, dove on her, found the problem, patched it and pumped her dry before the owner arrived. All at no charge .... and ...it was a power boat.

We all look out for each other, as it's doubtful any one else will.

Midget pole dancers with mace...

When my tahiti ketch sunk, the vultures were onto my boat faster than you can say wtf was that!My clothes were still wet and the plod had 8 calls, the club where it was visitor moored wouldn't help and most the damage was done days after till I brought it up. My experience with sailing types hasn't been pleasant. I have found most to be stuck up, rude and self centred. There have been a few good ones but nothing to rant about...
