What Do You Do for a Living?

Out of all curiosity, I was always under the impression sailing the world was for retired millionaires. I'm sure we have lots of those here. But I would love to know what your occupation was prior!

What do you/did you do for a living?

I am not retired yet. I don't even know if I will reach retirement age alive, since it seems to go up by one year every year. But I'm sure I will not be a retired millionaire...

I do corporate PR, marketing and communications.

I was originally a newspaper reporter, but I quickly found out you can't work for a newspaper and afford a boat.

was a welder for years working high steel, became a welding inspector , still forking hi steel.. few years ago when the market dropped, we sold everything and went cruising..
Came back to see the kids and opened a canvas shop and sail loft.. just brought my son into the business, In two years we'll have the retro-fit don on the boat and my son will be taking over the business and paying us a monthly fee..
Along with that, we have a couple rentals.. and Social Security which will start in a couple..
looking forward to going out again..

Start of my summer break, 3 months off.....off to east coast to do some sailing and scout out some cruising boats, as I may just stay and retire, either way, at most one more school year and I'm outta here.

Started as a cartographer, mortgage loan officer. Hubby, college prof, consultant. Stopped working to take care of our son after he was hit by a drunk driver. Our son recovered, and we decided to go cruising.

You know, I belong to about 20 forums covering topics of flying, sailing, hot rods, family care giving, well the list goes on. Some of the high rollers you think might be on this forum, you will find a few on the flying forums (except homebuilt, experimental) and the GT-40 car forum. Here I would guess most of us have just simply made the required adjustments to cruise, and most, on not much of a budget.

As to myself, retired Merchant Marine and currently taking care of my 92 year old dad before I return to cruising on my schedule and choice of destination rather than that of a shipping company.
