Re: What do you do for a living?

Kicked around for a few years out of high school, lots of menial jobs. Did 4 years in USCG, Aviation Electronics Technician. Got out in October 76.

Got a job doing maintenance on Amtrak and have worked in transit one way or another since. Maintenance guy, maintenance super, maintenance foreman, Project Engineer for electrical contractor, consulting engineer.

Now in a hybrid role, working on transit design/build projects as sort of an in-house consultant, part time.

In addition I served on the Board of Directors for a small non-profit for 13 years. That was pretty hands on if not paid.

We also bought a small apartment building that will, some day, contribute to the kitty.

Mostly worked in studios and control rooms. Though after 9/11 I spent a number of days and nights on top of New York City skyscrapers setting up temporary microwave links to replace the ones that were destroyed when the buildings came down. Even carried a portable unit on a deserted Subway train to have it set up for the first day Wall Street opened. That was Twilight Zone spooky.

I was a paying passenger on a container ship back in the mid ninties. Really enjoyed the experience. Seemed like a nice way to make a living and be on the water. Did you have a favorite port while you were on the ships?

Re: What do you do for a living?

Short answer: Sportsman and investor (mostly real estate) .

Somewhat longer answer: Miner,Cook,Construction,Demolition,Newsboy,Math and Science teacher(3 years) ,Ski Instructor( 1 year) ,IBM (3 days!) ,Bartender,Boat deliveries, and so many dirty jobs I'd like to forget. Learned a lot from each, but only Real Estate and Parenting (3 daughters) provided serious financial and spiritual rewards.

And still a Mom of course.

It might have been easier to have listed what I haven't done....
I think that as a mom you have to do sooo many jobs: became a high school science teacher, inner city, Mom, bus driver, PATC volunteer, test proctor, home ec teacher for inner city families, Mom, realtor, canvas shop extra, Grandma, mother-in-law, full time cruiser.
