I'm glad they got the chance to shot thier guns. They needed the practice as they can not shot worth crap for a warship!
For having stabilized gunnery they are amazingly poor marksmen!

Right.

This looks a lot more like some Russian Captn. saying "Vodka for my crew and letem have a bit of fun shootin up an empty piece of junk" A great stress reliever for men at sea for an extended time.

Having experience in gunnery, that was my first impression too, assuming the initial shots were not intended to warn or intimidate.

When I first heard of this last year, I kind of thought that the Russians catch and release policy was pretty good... if the pirates get back to land, they certainly would tell others to stay away from the Ruskies, and if they didn't make it back.... well, guess that is a pirates life.

I don't have a whole bunch of sympathy for the pirates, and if that hurts anyone's feelings, I really am not very concerned about that either.

Now, wouldn't it be fun to take part in that target practice?

You'd think so going on all the gun crazed "kill 'em all" seppo's that post here.
Look to any piracy /gun thread for evidence of this fanaticism toward things that go bang followed by thwack.

Sometimes I kind of like the "bang" to be followed with a "boom".

In all seriousness, I really do NOT have any sympathy towards the pirates, and if it takes a Russian catch and release program to stop them, so be it.

So far the pirates tactics have them winning. Time to change the balance, and individual boats can't do that.

And sometimes it takes a bang followed by a thwack or a boom.
