Re: Veterans Day

For those of you who may be unaware, the traditional supper to be served on Veterans Day is...Ravioli!!!

This because, after declaring a day of Celebration for Veterans, Woodrow Wilson, certain that returning Vets would enjoy a "home cooked meal" invited the 2000+ returning Veterans at the naval station to the White House for dinner--and, personally helped the White House cooks there prepare and serve Ravioli to the crowd! (Can you imagine that today?)

FWIW...

Re: Veterans Day

No I cant imagine that anymore because all the good presidents are dead .

Unfortunately all the good men are dead too.

We live in a word that has forgotten our past and all of our good men.

Guess we have to repeat history?

Sad that they all gave there all and the world has no idea and want to learn it all over again.

Glad we all got independent sailboats and independent thoughts ...

Cheers to everyone who has ever been...

God I love today so we can remember...

Lest WE FORGET?

Re: Veterans Day

I come from a military background.

My dad joined the Army at the end of Viet Nam, retired 29 years of service.
He was still in when I joined the Army at the end of Dec 1997. I've been in almost 14yrs... 6 more to go.
My dad said he never thought he would still be in by the time I was old enough to join and he retired 6yrs after I joined.
An uncle retired from the Air Force after 22-24yrs.
Brother in the Navy for 11 or 12 years.
Cousin in the AF for 12-13years or so.
Most anyone else in the family who did military service only did a few years and got out.

I'm looking forward to retirement. As of today, I have 2240 days left.

Re: Veterans Day

I lost a few good fights by never fighting them,in retrospect,from my armchair,after i knew i had gotten away-safe.

being 6-5" I have been fortunately able to keep some foes at bay until I have used my wit to save us both ...

As when learning how to fly ,the old worn and battered picture on the wall said...

There are a lot of bold pilots...
and there are a lot of old pilots...

But there are not a lot of -bold-old-pilots.

..."cept all of us old bold pilots, like you and me DVC-you must ave walked away ,wisely, from a few too?

Cheers

" anyone else in the family who did military service only did a few years and got out"

I hope you get out soon too!

I understand why people are in and I hope they all get out too!

Service is conundrum's these days for varied reasons which I don't want to bring up or discuss while we are remembering those who aren't here to participate in the discussion...as they would bring reams of introspect too.

I would be proud to enlist if the situation ever arose that deemed the need to fight to protect any of us...

haven't seen the need since we fought the last war of oppression?

Looks like all of us will have to enlist soon for the biggest war of them all which will be the last...

Re: Veterans Day

Veterans Day is about bringing warmth and love and friendship-and drinks!

to everyone who has served.

I wish we could bring them that everyday of the year.

I wish they would speak up more too! everyday- so we don't have to learn what they already know that war is hell! everyday you fight it.

and when the the powers that we are supposed to have elected in a democracy...start rattling there sabers-let them lead the fight -from the front lines-so they get the feeling of being shot at -first!

May we learn from our mistakes, before we make any more that we cant retreat from, anymore.

6yrs left to go.

At this point, I hope the gov keeps my retirement intact and don't mess with it doing all the federal budget cleanups.

I want to enjoy some cruising and take at least a year off to de-stress.
