Used Boat Purchase - Bahamian Registry

I'm looking to buy a boat in Florida that is registered in the Bahamas. Does anyone know if you can bring a Bahamian registered boat into Canada for personal use and what are the ramifications of doing this? Our plan is to sail in Canada for a couple of years and then head out for extended cruising.

Are you Canadian? If so from my understanding once that boat hits Canadian waters you have to pay import duty..

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm Canadian. I thought that your reply would be the case. i just didn't know if the Bahamian registry would be a factor.

Re: Used Boat Purchase - Bahamian Registry

If we kept the boat in Florida, Ft lauderdale area, it would be fairly simple to get reasonable flights down using Spirit airlines. In fact I'm flying down this weekend to see the boat for $35.03 return fare (I can't get a decent meal for that never mind a flight). I understand I would need a yearly cruising permit to sail her but are there any other requirements such as a boating card etc.? As well, are there any monitored slips available where I could tie her up with peace of mind? Sorry to inundate you with questions but my mind is getting tied in knots with coordinating everything.
