Upside of Hurricane

There must be some type of upside silver lining to a hurricane.

While stripping down the boat yesterday I noticed it was pretty dirty under the dodger once exposed to the light of day. Maybe all the rain will take care of this or me.

Woud probably better if I went out in the middle of the storm and hit it with a brush at the same time. I wonder it this is wise if I could talk the marina into taking me.

Another possible, and this is a bad thought; maybe an upside is a correction to some of unused crap boats in the mooring field that have all the lines etc slapping etc will occur.

Re: Upside of hurricane

Well for those who transit the East River in New York City as I occassionally do. It looks like there is finally some dockage and places to tie up along Manhattan Island courtesy of Hurricane Irene.

Though I suspect this will only be temporary.

My deck is nice and clean now! The bottom is nice and clean too there's an upside to everything. I also got enough of a shakedown to locate the problem areas, like leaky ports and a companionway that's not watertight. And I sure have alot more faith in my docklines now

Two boats in my marina sank, both power boats, but one of them was an abandoned one the marina was about to auction off. I'm sure mist abandoned boats didn't fair too well. Only the properly prepared ones were fit for the storm... But then again, sunk boats are probably more of a problem than floating abandoned boats...

One upside, it can also be a down side is;

You will find out how well you can secure/anchor your boat.

Or maybe not.

Carla hit Texas, Zee. I was living in Houston at the time. Not sure if you were saying it hit NY?

Re: Upside of Hurricane

1 Donna, eye went right over our house in Marathon, crossed into the Gulf, made hard right turn and came ashore around Ft Myers re entered the Atlantic below Jacksonville and hit the whole east coast all the way to Maine. Also believe it hit Canada with hurricane force winds also.
