Unusual Sights Out on the Water

A winter sunset in the Puget Sound. This was a one time shot. I've seen other red skies but not a total red out.

Here are a couple of the strange crafts we saw on our trip south in 2004.

Maybe more rare than unusual? It amazed me to see this sea eagle nest on a channel marker where there is fairly heavy traffic in the estuary near Jacobs Well QLD Australia.

I am guessing yes. Maybe the reason the nest was not removed is because these birds are becoming less common and are protected?

The "Sea Eagle" looks a lot like our Osprey. They have been making a wonderful comeback in the Chesapeake Bay (along with Bald Eagles.)

They routinely make nests on navigation markers and are unperturbed by the passing parade of boats.

Here's a pic of a 25 ft greenland shark i caught while eel fishing off nova scotia. The orange thing in the pic is a 45 gal. drum we use to catch the eels.

that powerboat thing on top is still in fort myers on the moorings-- and still lived in-took me aback, also -
osprey nests in some parts of icw in west fla are nicely trimmed so the signs are still usable. is cool i took pix when i was there --i dont have enough signal to load them -- i will when can....

The craziest thing I saw this year was a giant cluster of Moon Jellyfish.

When we got close the water looked bright yellow and I panicked thinking I was running toward a shoal that I somehow didn't know about. Turned out to be a huge jellyfish orgy.

Apparently these groups are common in this season here in the South Puget Sound, but this is the most I've ever seen, and in general I'm seeing more jellyfish than I've ever seen before.

We saw the same amount as your pic the last time we were in Poulsbo, really cool, and it looked like you could walk on the water there were so many. We had dropped kayaks and were paddling to town from anchor when we first saw them, and later they surrounded our boat. They don't sting and my 2 and 4 year olds (esp the 2 year old boy) thought it was the coolest thing ever to pet them!!!

(I thought it was really cool too, but I didn't know they didn't sting until I got up the guts to do some "sample petting" before my kids tried! )

cut the line.....then go grab the other end. Greenland sharks thankfully move very very slow.
