Has anybody, during their travels, come across boat names which obviously were not intended by their owners as becoming points of humour or ridicule?

As an example, it took me a while to explain to some of my Norwegian friends that the below example was not pronounced, "C0ck Cheese" !

Met a boat called Morning Glory with parents and kids onboard. Until they left the US, they didnt realise what their boatname really meant. They honestly thought it was a type of flower. Their quaint innocence gave us a chuckle!

I guess I'm Naive too..... Morning Glory IS a flower.... does it mean something else outside the US? (my imagination can certainly create something!)

The term does have an unfortunate slang meaning, but it is a flower name.

Sometimes it's almost impossible to avoid slang terms.

Well, that's the joy: unintentional to say this least!

A flower it is.. in addition to being an auto-erectile euphemism in Europe.

Germanic languages would call "Morning Glory" "Morgensbrod" literally meaning "Morning Bread"

Europe??? Morning Glory is a phrase used throughout the Anglo-Saxon world, but, apparently, not in the US.

Mostly just hilariously bad names. We used to debate which ones were the worst a lot. My favorite was always "Son Seeker" with a big 'ol Jesus fish on the transom. I'm sure they don't think it's unintentionally funny but I do.

I've only heard it in the US.

I had to explain to a guy I worked with a couple years ago what it meant.

Well.... if we're talking girls.... just out of high school I had a boss named Homer Screws, his daughter's name was Suzie... never did get a date with her though.....
