I'm Canadian, living in
Ontario, I once broke an arm is
Quebec and they would not accept an
Ontario health card. In fact they would not treat me at all unless I paid cash in advance.
A few other tidbits............
In Ontario, you will pay nothing for anything you undergo in a hospital... a pretty good deal.
Outside of the hospital is another story. My wife spent six weeks on life support two years ago and it did not cost us a cent. Since she has been out of hospital we have spent 200k on physiotherapy, aquatherapy, reflexology, massage and the biggie - drugs. In the last two years we have also paid for four
emergency ambulance trips. In three years she will turn 65 and then all drugs will be paid for. By that time (at 10k per month) we will be penniless.
I have two friends who
lost everything (homes, businesses) caring for their severely autistic
kids.
When OHIP cards were introduced in Ontario we had a population of 11 million. The bastards produced 18 million cards. I was once offered one for 1k on the street in Buffalo, NY.
Political refugees in
Canada get 100% coverage the day they arrive, including all the stuff that is not covered for citizens such as full dental, drugs, eyeglasses.
According to a newspaper article just a few weeks ago there are 4,000 Americans claiming refugee status in Ontario. The maximum Old age
security and old age pension combined in Ontario is $1,600 per month. Political refugees get $2,600 a month and it averages five years to resolve their claims.
The
grass is greener somewhere I'm sure.
