Maybe we have licenses to help animals fish and women from becoming extinct?

Re: U.S. Healthcare Pirates

treatments here in mexico are a fraction of what they are costing uin usa. is excellent care and realistic pricing.

probably because here in mexico one does not suffer the corruption of having govt interfere with delivery of health care as is done in usa. beginning in 1970s, intrusiveness of congress into the manner in which mds and rns delivered health care to patients has been a negative influence. isnt the mds dictating your care it is the congress. how do you like that...cannot blame mds..lol is not their fault they have not been able to practice their chosen profession according to hippocratic oath they took.
many mds have left the field because of this intrusiveness, and more will continue to leave, as it is not practice of medicine as it should be practiced, but as congress demands it be practiced. .
there was never a need for congress to instill regulations on the delivery of your health care when the problem has always been the insurance lobby and tort law problems in usa.,

most prostitutes are not there by choice, nor do they get much of the money - they are the victim
If you're in an accident and end up in the ER without insurance, the county/taxpayers pay for your care - they are the victim
Smoking pot is not illegal in WA state, so can't comment on that.
Gays getting married was never a crime, just not possible. Not sure what you mean here.

The Times article is an OpEd piece and among other things says …

“If you look at it historically,” said Professor Yoo, “you might say, ‘I can’t believe we’re at war,’ when you see how much speech is going on. Civil liberties are far more protected than what we’ve seen in past wars.”

And I'm sorry but licenses and taxes are a pain and nobody likes them but they are not an infringement on your liberties.

Mexico in 2003 adopted a universal govt run healthcare system which vastly improved their health care system. Why can the Mexican govt interfere with healthcare and it works well where the US govt can't?

Here's the UK, it even goes into detail that they recognize violent crimes as different and they put that into the equation and the UK is still higher. This is from a typically liberally biased site.

Social media post says U.K. has far higher violent crime rate than U.S. does | PolitiFact

"This calculation suggests that there is a higher rate of crime in England and Wales, but the discrepancy is not anywhere near as wide as the one cited in the meme."

Thus implying there is sill a higher violent crime rate.

We may have more gun related crimes, however countries that ban guns completely still have gun crimes and have higher crime rates.

Also funny how Chicago, in which outlaws guns" has the most homicide rate by an overwhelming percentage. Gun free zones don't work. Gun laws only hurt law abiding citizens. 2.2 million cases annually where a gun is used to protect ones self or another.
I have no wish to get into the nonsense gun debate but as to crime figures in the UK and US. Here's a commentary

"The International Crime Victims Survey, conducted by an arm of the United Nations most recently in 2005, shows the difference between reported crime and all crimes committed by conducting polls that ask people if they've been victims of specific crimes. Polling data showed that England and Wales had 2,600 cases of robbery per 100,000 population and 8,100 cases of "assaults and threats" per 100,000. While those figures are even higher than the meme suggested, the U.S levels are also much higher -- 1,100 cases of robbery and 8,300 cases of assaults and threats per 100,000. And the rate of sexual assault is actually about 50 percent higher in the United States than it is in England and Wales. So this data set doesn’t support the thrust of the meme, either.
"

Basically once you move away from clearly defined crime stats like homicides , you are more correctly collecting crime reporting statistics rather then actual crimes. What that shows is in the US people trust the police less and don't report petty crimes , whereas they do in the UK. I mean the stats include " stealing bicycles " , yup violent place the UK. ,!!

Hmm .. how about driving while intoxicated? Assuming you haven't hit anything or anybody. Victimless?

And I think there would be other example where society has determined that a threat to the public good is involved.

I would love for someone to come up with a comparrison for costs of procedures in other countries Bahamas, Carribbean, Asia, Europe, etc vs U.S. with and w/out insurance, it would be a most interesting comparrison and may alleviate some fears cruisers have of traveling without insurance.

That statistical(?) paper that AirBoyzT is touting states that Canada has 92,590 per 100,000 people drug crimes or 164 times the rate in the US. Oh, really? If you believe that paper you are in serious denial.
