We expect the remnants to hit us here in Hainan, just off the coast of Vietnam, on Sat/Sun. The model I looked at is predicting only 100 knot sustained in the Philippines. Wish I could view the videos you posted but the Chinese government blocks youtube.

Already made landfall at 195 mph sustained. Predicted to still be category five when it hits Vietnam.

This is an incredible storm, I've been through many and cannot imagine anything, land or sea, withstanding what Haiyan has been generating. I suspect the losses will be beyond any before.

per storm 2k .many different posters writing on this one, has become 55 pages in length..very active and treacherous storm with now 127 kts winds and still not at vietnam shoreline.......

in 2003 I lived through hurricane Fabian in Bermuda, - sustained 145mph winds. Good thing I was on land, but I cannot fathom what double that power would be like.

(Since you used that word "power")
The increase in power, and potential damage, going from those 145mph Fabian winds to the 200mph+ ones of Haiyan/Yolanda is about a four/six-fold+ increase in power, not merely double.
(not that something like a Cat5 Fabian is ever minor).
The comparison is from 'just' a Cat 4/5 hurricane to something well off the scale: Tropical cyclone scales - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia .
Like you, I find it unimaginable.
