Place a silver coin under the mast...
You'll never be 'totally broke'

Only ******** and Admirals stand in a companionway.

Only dead men and angels sit on the cap rail.

No cut flowers on a boat.

I have no superstitions and believe they are foolish scare tactics and should be shoved in the trash can with all the rest of the cruiser bulldust.... apart from the bare breasted women tradition. Like other things in life: you make your own luck.

ok so while putting in my earrings (plural because of the economy lol) i will admire the original name still on the boat. i will then step onboard with my right foot (with my shoes on), restrain from whistling while being careful not to cut the mast while placing a coin under it, remind my "bear" breasted lady friend she cant bring those potted plants and flower bouquets onboard, nor the green mittens cause we cant get rid of them. even if we could throw them overboard an albatross would likely eat them and die. also not to call me a pig when i pee to the lee. and while i explain a knot i wont say the (w)abbitt comes out the hole......

finally i will tell the ******* in the companionway to go sit on the cap rail.

About the earring thing...

During a martial arts workshop several years ago it was proposed that the left ear earing thing among sailors was to stimulate a pressure point that improved visual acuity in the right eye. However, I have a left ear piercing and have never noted any visual benefit.
