The Top 10 Dead Horses

This is very tongue in cheek so no body get their undies in a knot okay?

The top 10 dead horses?

In stall #1 we have GPS v Sextants

In stall #2 we have paper charts vs electronic

In stall #3 we have monohulls vs multihulls

In stall #4 we have a dead horse with a bunch of different anchors tied around its neck.

In stall #5 we have "how much does it cost to go cruising?"

In stall #6 we have start small vs start big

In stall #7 we have a list of Water boats">blue water boats that can circumnavigate

in stall #8 we have the bumfuzzles

in stall #9 we have pirates.

And finally in the last stall is just a huge pile of guns.

If you could put one dead horse to pasture where it could never be beaten again, which one would it be?

#11 Is a beneteau (or enter similar mass production boat here) a capable blue water sailor?

Re: The Top 10 Dead Horses

I would have to say #3! Everyone with a brain knows that monohulls are far superior in nearly every category except one. That one category has more to do with impressing the opposite sex than it does performance!

Hey buddy! I said you could pick which one to be put to pasture, I didn't say you could ride the horse in stall #3.

Re: The Top 10 Dead Horses

dont forget the guns on a formosa- we ALL know they dont sail worth a squat, and they always leak-- and with the wrong anchor sailing monohulledly into the wrong season towing a bendytoy with a sextant and a thru a sea of angry pirates,,, and a dead horse at the wheel with a crew of seasick landlubbers just graduated from asa101 peeing into a jabsco toilet standing up and messing the varnished floor.....

Re: The Top 10 Dead Horses

Another horse beaten into submission waiting to ascend to the top ten list:

"Hi! I'm new to sailing, boats, and water in general. In fact, I've never even seen a boat. BUT, I have a dream to (fill in): [circumnavigate in a year/liveaboard/sail solo nonstop around the world]. I've had this dream since before birth. Can anyone tell me briefly what I need to leave? Like what boat should I get, how to make money, and how sails work, and what laws and rules there are and stuff? I plan on leaving in 2 weeks. Oh, by the way I'm a fill in: [middle-aged divorced man/soldier in a war zone/23-year old single girl/as cluseless as they come]."

Re: The Top 10 Dead Horses

I'd DEFinitely like to learn how to use a sextant. Plus they look pretty cool for a decoration. I imagine we should get one and practice using it. Especially since we'll have so much time on our hands sometimes. Perhaps we can speak Spanish and navigate with a sextant.
