Re: The Top 10 Dead Horses

You know those of us who are posting on this (US because now I'm part of this one) have all "played" on the threads more than once (on the same topic over and over). And lots of the new threads are started by new members. Many of which stop posting in CF based on how we treat them because they asked the question.

Some of the threads do have good info in them if one is willing to read them open minded. And of course if they don't you don't have to read them or post to them.

Most new threads are only that way because people who have been hooked on CF a while have read a lot of them.

Hey maybe it isn't a dead horse, maybe it's a zoombie horse and we need to be alert!

No thanks I stopped way before that the other day and later skipped to the end to see if the topic had changed into something else.

Re: The Top 10 Dead Horses

I'll go with #6 "start small, or big". With #7 "a list of boats suitable for circumnavigating" a close second.

Reasons are - those dead horses are just about boats - nothin' else. Neither seamanship nor gear nor technique - the things that really matter.

Liked and laughed at the FAQ idea. Why flog dead horses when we can have mods herding cats instead! Sounds like a job I would resign to avoid!

Loved Gord's 'pass' on the 'opportunity' to mediate and meditate on FAQ.

trust me... there are days... and then there are DAYS....

But I am sorta bummed that while everyone is happy to enjoy the black humour of the topic and such, no one is interested in creating a body of information on these topics that could be starting points for newbies wanting to hear it all over again...

Nothin to say that new duellos and acrimonious mud slinging debates and conversations wouldn't happen. Just a place with the trash edited out and the salient info accessible. Right now if you pointed someone to the anchor threads there are so many thousands of posts beating that zombie hoss a newbie would never get thru it...

I think a few folks wouldn't mind writing up some of these topics, the problem is that nobody is looking forward to getting flamed for leaving out that tiny vital precious bit of information that they forgot.
