On a thread somewhere, there was talk regarding the best coffee maker.
I love coffee in all its forms, and especially good filter coffee.

There is one coffee maker that stands head and shoulders above the rest. Its hand made in Holland. Yep its not cheap. Ive never got round to parting with the $300 in ten years of longing for one...

One of the unsaid problems of sailors using bicycles, is the ignoring of your journey by pedestrians.. Here in Sevilla, there is 72 kilometres of dedicated cycle paths, and all the pedestrians ignore the average puny bell on the bike.

You're dreaming if you think that'll work. I've ridden a bike over 150,000 miles over the past 15 years, and can tell you that you're only going to piss everyone off.

Unlike most of my friends, I've never been hit (knock wood) and hope to keep it that way.

Here's my rules for successful bike riding.

1. Always wear bright clothes. Black or grey are the worst colors that scream KILL ME!

2. Always ride defensive and assume you're invisible.

3. Wear a helmet

4. Always ride way over on the right side of the road going same direction as the traffic, or on the left side if you're in one of those bassackwards countries. Don't do any of the "taking the lane sh*t" unless you have a death wish.

5. Assume you're invisible.

6. Allow cars enough room to open their doors, because.... you're invisible.

7. Never start arguments with a motorist, because you'll always loose and it'll ruin your ride.

8. Don't use vulgar hand gestures towards motorists unless you want to die.

9. Assume you're invisible and ride accordingly.

For Sevilla, the hornit will be just fine. As stated, the problem for me is not the vehicular traffic so much, rather the people straying onto the cycle paths...


Road driving is requiring a whole set of defensive tactics as you state, and a loud 'presence' is just one of them....

The little ding ding bell on a bike is long redundant in cities...

People using cell phones, not thinking or just being selfish asses walk on the cycle path and literally dont hear an approaching bike......... now they will.. Seville being in Andalucia is not up to date with most things and continue to use tried and useless methods.... YOu cant even buy an electronic horn here.

(Stealing bikes in the city is a national pasttime... and yet again, they dont sell the latest security products.....no post locks for saddle, no wheel locks, no proper Abus or Kryptonite locks..... These stand up to most things except angle grinders and slow the thief down.... If you have a 1K bike then to me spending 100-150 on security is part of the purchase price.)

The ability to ride in a straight line might help. If your weaving as a Weavis? might, then safety might be compromised. Watch for curbs too or you might mash your foot! Boatman?Do not lend your bike to crazed Russkiy poets either.

I do a 10K round trip every day interspersed with other places... somedays is about 25K... Im actually enjoying it.... Next year will upgrade to a different bike. I have the electric assist off about 50% of the time...NOt many hills here so just use if loaded with packages or really tired.

Not much chance of that.. his bikes maybe 200lbs+ lighter than mine..

I still cant lift it onto the centre stand..
