Re: The Mallorca Squad

Hi Praire.
So happy Mr B was up to doing some navigation up the east side. give my regards to him...

I leave Mallorca on the 30th and head back to the heat of Seville. Being in Mallorca is always good for the spirit and it has helped to settle some of the pain of what was not meant to be. NOt too much sailing this visit but enough for me to have some peace.

Ive been other places in the Med and always come 'home' to Mallorca. I guess it is where the roots of the affection started for the Med life. Ken did not find that attachment here and leans more to the Italian side of things... that is good too, very beautiful over there. I much prefer the attachment of a marina base and work outwards... but then I like catamarans as well...

Montenegro and a preview of Greece over the next two months. Both look very attractive.

Next season will be mostly Greece.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

I am armed with prices and build prices for 40-70 ft day boats for conferences and trips etc on the Seville River. Now I need to get prices for licences and permits to do it...

I reckon all told will be around €300k

The boat has to be low enough for the bridges and seaworthy enough to bring round to Mallorca... Power vessel. No sails.

Will you winter your boat in Greece then?

The current plan is to return to Sardinia. Italy is very accomodating to non EU boats and tourists like us who need to Customs Bond our boats or do the skip out of the EU every 18 months.

But I'm open to suggestions on locations in Greece that would be secure and clean to haul out and keep the boat on the hard over the winter. Closeness of an airport would also need to be important along with marine services. I'd also need to be able to live on the boat for a month and do work myself. Also, Italy couldn't care less as to how long I want to stay each year, how's Greece regarding treaty visa issues?

Any ideas?

Re: The Mallorca Squad

Gouvia Marina in Corfu is a good location for an oyster owner. Plenty of facilities for maintenance and haul out. Only a 20min taxi from the airport. Can't comment on the visa stay time.

This is my current view. Sunreef 114 Che. It replaced the sunreef 70 that was there earlier in the week

Re: The Mallorca Squad

Just took a look at Phils progress on his delivery. Miles from anywhere and slogging on.

There are aspects to boating Im not keen on. For example, on the right vessel and with the right company, I would love being on the trip with Phil. Yet without a good reason or purpose to do a trip, I dont really enjoy long trips for the trips sake. I love offshore coastal trips where every couple of days can pull in to shore and enjoy shore life... I like to be able to see the shore from time to time and feel connected.

I've been watching Phil for a few days since you mentioned he's on another gig. Not sure where he's headed. Thought for a while he was pullin' in to the Azores. Doesn't look like it.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

We're hearing much more American English being spoken everywhere here in Italy this year. Probably due to the favorable currency exchange. Last year we noticed an increase, this year even more.

Is it the same in Spain?

Re: The Mallorca Squad

A question..

Do we think it would be better combining the 2 threads to the Mallorca and Sardinia Squad?

Re: The Mallorca Squad

Me thinks we need more of a Sardinia, Cosica, Italy focused thread. The interests of respodents would be quite different. It's up to you, what are your thoughts Gary? I just know the last few folks we met up with here in Sardinia were respondents to Italian, Elba and Ponza based questions on other threads outside the Mallorca squad thread.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

As I look through the posts, I see the mallorca squad is a cozy nook for a few of us. I would have liked more input from others but the focus and location is narrow.

Perhaps a 'Western Med Squad' which encompasses all of us or perhaps just leave it as it is... I really dont mind... it was just a passing thought....
