re: The Mallorca Squad

Gary,

Would you like to come over and spend some time on the boat, then head over to the local café for dinner or a mid afternoon lunch?

Ken

SO

Final change of plan.

Kenomac and mrs Kenomac will be in Palma today..15th Tuesday, and will be heading for
Mesón el Rocio

yet again for lunch at @2pm. I will be there. Anyone else is welcome.

Hopefully the family Praire can spare an hour....... I personally will be hitting the smaller tapita and drink course of action as 2 weeks of traveling Spain and being the recipient of Spanish hospitality have left me overfed and watered.

Sorry I missed this guys. I actually "live" in Mallorca, but really on board Gilana, which is currently in Panama. I want to tell you about a restaurant that culinary raconteurs only whisper about. You cannot book, and you must go early for lunch. Their shoulder of lamb is the best thing ever after marinading for three days in San Miguel beer.
The restaurant is called "Es Verger" you take the road from Palma to Inca, and turn off at "Alaro" then follow the pink tourism signs all the way to "Castillo" but, the restaurant is just before the castillo. You will really enjoy it. Everyone we have invited there has been awestruck, its very rustic, actually you share a table with strangers, in the kitchen of the farmhouse, and leave with new friends.

Thank you for this tip. I actually am a visitor to the restaurant and have been for a number of years. I agree the lamb is excellent!

For the assembly of crew that meet up here, we were constrained by time and transport. it was convenience and centrality of the location that decided the Palma venue.

Although Mallorca is not my primary residence, Ive had a home here for the best part of 30 years and attempted to visit every restaurant on the Island. Ive not succeeded but will not quit! Its a tough job but someone has to do it...

As my Mallorcan residence is currently rented, I am staying with a local chef and his wife who make their living from show cooking/specialist home catering for wealthy clients and also from private events in their own home in the centre of the Island. Had there been a few more of us...... I would have suggested a meetup for food at his house!

however, the venue we chose to meet at, is yet another well founded high quality typical Spanish cuisine restaurant of which I have been associated with for a couple of years..........

As we say in England.... GREAT GRUB!!

Just a note to let you know we arrived in Barcelona bright and early this morning.
A special thanks to the kenomac's and prairie chicken's for their direction when we arrived. Wonderful anchorage and handy dink dock close to stores, we would never have found it on our own. Was really a pleasure to have met you guys and Carla and I wish you both great times and wonderful sailing.
Also enjoyed the aviation discussions!
PC just email us if you want to talk about the autoprop. Cheers, Robert and Carla

Good thread to read. Sorry we missed the meet up, we'll be over in Mallorca in a few weeks if there's another one planned.

re: The Mallorca Squad

I would love to join you all but the OH has going home in his sights & will not be distracted by stopping for a lunch.

Yes, we've been to the restaurant at Alaro too. It is quite a drive but a lovely view.

We will be back in the fall so perhaps we can regroup again Weavis. We're foodies too, so can usually be lured by rumors of great food.

re: The Mallorca Squad

Near the Santa Catalina market, a restaurant called "Mono Listo"
Near the sailmakers a restaurant called "Patio Andaluz"
In the poligono Son Castillo, if you are running errands, a bar called "Can' Marti" make the best bocadillo of the same name, and tell them we say hi.
In Port 'd Andratx (our home village) "La Piazza" and just in front of it for coffee and cake "La consigna" The best vegetarian paella at "Rocamar" right next to our friends charter business called "Llauts" and not to be missed the restaurant in the Club de Vela, (there are three there the one furthest from the pool, excluding the bar at the marinero's office) IF you like Pa'amb Oli, the best on the island is in the village of San Telmo, its the 2nd on the right up the main street, lots of antique agricultural equipment decorating it. Oh, getting homesick...

By the way Weavis, are you really considering a Lagoon?

re: The Mallorca Squad

The O'Macs and i met up for lunch and had a great time. They cycled miles and acted as though they could still breathe normally when they got off

Ill be on the Island for a while. Its my favourite place and well worth a visit from cruisers both for the scenery and the variety of places to visit within a small area. I wish it were a little cheaper but then it is what it is.

The Praires are readied to head off back to their base.

I have another seminar to conduct in Seville in October, so will be around on and off for a while.

Im not interested in Lagoons per se......... just one particular one for a lot of reasons.....that interest is waning as it seems our price is not meshing..... its ok..... right now I couldnt use it anyhow so when the timing is right it will happen.

The Macs are heading to another island this week..... so they will keep us informed of their exploits from time to time...

re: The Mallorca Squad

As there seems to be a lot of local knowledge of the island I was wondering if someone could help me with marina prices? We're 11.3m x 3.9m. After staying away from the crazy prices of Ibiza were hoping to pull into a marina or two as we explore the area.

As we're foodies also these recommendations are getting saved.

Best regards,
Simon

re: The Mallorca Squad

Hola Simon. Ken had asked earlier & I'm not sure if this info reached you. You will be looking for a 12 m mooring. I as asked at our port last week & the rate was 42 euro a nite + 21% vat + port fees, power & water for a total between 60 & 70 a night. We are right in the heart of Palma & I think this marina is one of the most reasonable in price. And we like it here. Pm me for more details if you wish.

I suspect Club de Vela in Andraitx is now over 70 but that is a nice port & town. There is a good lavenderia at the port & good shops & restaurants.

Santa Pnsa is a great bay to anchor in. Let me know which way you're going & I will offer some suggestions.

re: The Mallorca Squad

As for restaurants, you can't beat C'an Pedro in Genova for good Malloquin food on the grill & great value. It is a short taxi ride from anchorages near Puerto Portals.

Visit Puerto Portals (by dinghy if necessary) to see the sights but the only two places we eat at are Wellies (best burgers in the world) or Lollo Rossa pizzeria. I don't think the prices of the moorings are as outrageous as their reputation but getting a mooring is the tough part. It never hurts to ask though & is a good place tp take on fuel & water.

@simonpickard go and take a look at PUERTO DEPORTIVO . Marina de Bonaire owned by a friend and fellow cruiser, very close to Alcudia, fantastic restaurant right IN the marina. They can probably accommodate you in the entrance.
