Re: The Mallorca Squad

Before I came here, I scoured Airbnb and local places to stay. I was resigned to my normal practice of living in a hotel for a while. Sad to say, the price reflects what the Island can ask for being the major tourist destination.

One of the colleagues in the clinic got me a lovely apartment for €300 a month. Wi Fi, and right where I want to be.

My fever has broke and the throat is a little better so the cold is on the run. Today I will go to the local supermarket and do some shopping.

I will provision for a 3 day boat trip later in the week. The nice thing about Island hopping is that its just snacks and fluids as the trip is planned around restaurants

€300 a month??? Holy bananas thats a fantastic bargain.

I hope your cold gets better. Herr Chopin got a cold on Mallorca once...well, it wasn't really a cold.

I will see many crows today on my soiree. Each will get a peanut.

Chopin managed to scandalise the entire Island. He was escorted off in a cart never to return. Valdemosa was his residence and worth a visit. Very beautiful. His piano is still there.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

To change the subject away from monkey meat, after a week of shopping for a new computer, I just purchased a new HP CORE i7 based 17 inch Envy laptop on sale at $150 off. WOW! Totally amazing compared to anything Apple had even at three times the price. Apple... no touch screens and the displays were much smaller even at over $2800.

HP 1/3 the price of an Apple and offering much more including larger screen, touch screen, voice recognition which all seem to work quite well. My two year old ipad air is beginning to crap out due to software already becoming outdated. When this happens, I can still use them for onboard navigation and grib stuff, so they're still worth keeping and functional on the boat.

But Apple computer is definitely beginning to fall way behind PC and android based products. An added bonus.... I don't need to go to the apple store and deal with the knuckleheads every time I have a question, like Mrs. Mac does with her MacBook air. :-)

Re: The Mallorca Squad

I have:

3 MB laptops: 1 for work; 1 personal; 1 for work/personal backup
2 13" retired MB laptops. Still good, but old and uses physical HD not SSD
1 mini iPad
1 Mac Pro 8 core (old but nice with the Cinematic Display)
1 iPhone

I switched from Windowz 3rd party crap in 2007. It was the best thing I ever did. If I had one more DLL incompatibility issue, or driver issue or 3rd party conflicts and finger pointing at each other, I would have gone to Azbakerrrssstan and boughht an AK 107. For Unix/server development work, Apple is a gem. I had them in the 80's and was a devoted fan, mainly because of the media support. However, they sucked at that time for any serious corporate stuff.

Yes the stuuupid Apple bozo's in the Apple store with their stupid T-shirts and scaggly college dorm looks you just want to f** slap, but we get over that and now we play dumb and drive them crazy with stupid questions. Its fun to do. I am a monkey.

For boat work? Yes cheap PC sh** is probably the way since you can use it as a skip rock when it will eventually fail in a rocky habour and you loose your temper. I would like to watch you do that. ;D

I'd seriously look at the SurfaceBook/pad stuff. I would dish money only because they have some apps for it I want that aren't on the iPad.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

Valdemosa is indeed a lovely, historic, town in the 'montanas'. Although they cater to tourists, those tourists mostly leave at the end of the day as Valdemosa doesn't have mass resorts. There are only a few classic or elegant hotels. It's also a part-time residence of Michael Douglas & Catherine Zita Jones.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

Ive been a little under the weather with a heavy cold and sore throat. Stress. For all that, Im in a beautiful large 4 bed apartment on the 4th floor of a luxury block. I have every amenity known to man and unusually for Mallorca, a fast and stable internet.

The good news is that my family member with a difficult disease is responding to the alternative treatment I have put them on. All I had to do was sell my car to pay for the in stay in a dedicated facility in Europe. I flew out just before I came to Spain and prescribed medicine. I will fly there again in 3 weeks.

Why do many cruisers refer to boating as a "sport"? Maybe I missed something however it would explain the fascination with learning to sail in small dinghies.. bugger that for a game of soldiers.

to me sailing is a day out or a lifestyle. I dont race. I sail sedately from place to place.

Any comments from the squad?
