I dont really want to be knee deep in replacing this and that on a boat. Somehow it takes the joy our of it.

time to design boat stuff that lasts a bit longer.

Now there is a thought.
Things aren't always as they appear. The deck refinishing is complete, the hull polishing was completed months ago at the shipyard and still looks 100% (thanks to everyone for advice on how to do it correctly) and will only need a quick wax when I put the boat away in two months. The hull only requires scraping once every two months. Most of the time, maintenance only takes 1/2 - 1 hour per day if that.

I used to live right down the street from where the MacGegors were built... Very light duty, would be like living in a cheap bleach bottle or shower stall, high carrying costs due to the 65 ft length, but small tight accommodations do to its narrow beam. Old systems by now which will all need replacement.

But if that's what you like... Go for it.

ITs the simplicity of maintenance I like in Macgregors, not the boat itself.

Dichotomies in humans.

Sometimes on the boat, I just sit and look at the vista, the water, the shore the waves, the birds and am overwhelmed by the majesty of it all.

Other times I just fart.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

Who are Mallorca Squad and what is the reason for their existence?

They are either:
  • A group of extremely rich people visiting the Med based out of Mallorca.
  • Russian Billionaires in Disguise
  • People on the Witnesses protection program
  • A few boaters who met up in Mallorca and kept in touch

Yep folks, we is just plain old Cfers who were in the same place at the same time and enjoyed each others company. The Squad is not exclusive and open to all boaters at any Med destination where a meet up can be arranged. We are Canadian American and Irish English with South African thrown in. Just sit round and talk and drink a little...We even allow monkeys.

You're a rich old dude.

Retire.

Buy a boat... One of those catamaran thingies you seem to like.

Visit new places throughout the Med., not just Palma. Boring...

Overwinter wherever the hello you like.

Life is short.

Do it now.

I've already had our boat four years.... the time passes too quickly.

Re: The Mallorca Squad

Regarding those catamaran thingies...

My big revelation this summer, if I pick the right anchorage mindful of the weather and swell, our monohull doesn't rock any more than the catamarans I'm constantly around. When there is a swell, they rock just as much... but more of an annoying jerky motion. Forget about trawlers, I almost throw up just watching them roll back and forth, they're only good in a marina as a condo.

We haven't had a single day or night this season in a rocky, rolly anchorage going on four months now.

I think to make that statement valid, you might just want to be on a Cat that has been set properly..........

You observation is not my practical experience.
