Be grateful...you weren't disemboweled.

At age 59 I can't calculate how much time I have left, but I have calculated to the second the amount of time I'll devote to worrying about my popularity,
Cheers all

Re: The Cult Of Likabilty

Having always been a non-conformist and somewhat an outsider, I have never been tempted to have a Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin or other social media account. I also don't play golf or went in for the martini lunches so popular in my younger days.

Lancoombe "At age 59 I can't calculate how much time I have left, but I have calculated to the second the amount of time I'll devote to worrying about my popularity" SPOT ON!!

Of course at 70, I should be a real conformist, (generational thing). Oh well missed that train as well

Re: The Cult Of Likabilty

My wife is a professional word nerd and makes a living as an editor so I source all my word definitions from Merriam Webster.

Social Media : forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking or microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos)

This sounds a lot like Cruisers Forum to me. Most other definitions you will find will tend to agree.

I know shocking right? I was horrified to learn I was a social media user too. I always considered myself an outsider and figured as long as I wasn't on Facebook I was in the clear.

Re: The Cult Of Likabilty

Right at the bottom of the page here, it tells us just what CF is (or thinks it is): a "Social Knowledge Community".

What the heck is a "green reputation square"? Do you mean the stars in everyone's profile? Those just relate to the number of postings.

Mark

If you look at someone's user profile page above the gold stars you may or may not see a series of green squares.

These are "reputation squares" and are given to users by other users. You for example have four green squares indicating that you are well liked enough we to be considered to have a good reputation. I however have only two indicating I am not as highly regarded by the community as you.

For the record Mark, despite a couple rubs I have had with you, I think very highly of you and even though we often don't see eye to eye, I have a lot of respect for you and your opinions. If anyone deserves a good reputation it would be you.

Re: The Cult Of Likabilty

Now everyone is dashing off to see how well liked they are. Making your point.

I think the green square are related to how many times a member has been "thanked" for a post (bottom right - thumbs up).
This might be a reasonable proxy for likability/popularity.
