"Survivor" Texas style

Due to the popularity of the "Survivor" shows, Texas is planning to do one entitled, "Survivor, Texas-Style".

The contestants will all start in Dallas, then drive to Waco, Austin, San Antonio, over to Houston and down to Brownsville. They will then proceed up to Del Rio, El Paso, Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, and Amarillo. From there they will go on to Abilene, Fort Worth, and finally back to Dallas.

Each will be driving a pink Volvo with bumper stickers that read: "I'm Gay", "I Love the Dixie Chicks", "Boycott Beef", "I Voted for John Kerry", "George Strait Sucks", "Hillary in 2008", and "I'm here to confiscate your guns".

The first one to make it back to Dallas ALIVE wins.

I'll be watching that one I will forward that one to my uncle-in-law. He is a big time Austin attorney, and a lifelong conservitive.

Won't work. They will get a parade in DFW, Austin and Houston. Most people in San Antonio, Brownsville, Del Rio and El Paso only read Spanish. I'm not sure anyone in Waco reads at all (and I know a bunch of folks in Waco.) The gas to make the El Paso to Fort Worth segment would make the show too expensive to produce. Everybody will guess that Mary Kay Cosmetics has started giving away Volvos instead of Caddilacs. And the last Dixie Chicks album was really pretty good... I've got to go to the farm today, whar's my Birkenstocks?

For the sake of those around the world (& maybe in the U.S.) that don't know about Texas geography, you may want to note the mileage of the various legs.

That itinerary would be a LOT of miles. As I recall, just El Paso to Dallas is about 640 miles. Would Brownsville to Amarillo be 1,000???

How many "cultures" would that trip involve? It would be almost like visiting four or five different countries!!!!!!!!! and climates!!

well, checking on Google Earth, as the ultralight flies it would be about 2,140 miles. Be a bit further following roads.

Could throw a trip up to Amarillo in for grins...add a few hundred more miles.
