I thought about you and the mermaids this winter. How did you manage? I'm seriously questioning living aboard in this area after this past winter!

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

Actually we have done fine but it hasn't been "fun". I am seriously looking at moving somewhere south now. It should be waaay more fun than this! Sailing in my slip as usual.

When would you be departing La Paz?

I'm currently in La Cruz, Banderas Bay, and will be heading out on the clipper ship route (3500 mile offshore loop) from Cabo San Lucas to the Straits of Juan de Fuca, planning to get rolling early April.

The decision to go really depends on whether or not you enjoy long offshore passages, which I do; what I like to avoid is multi-day hops along the coast.

Hello everyone!

Just an update. I have provisioned the boat and will be departing this evening or in the morning. I am headed east with no schedule or destination. (from houston/galveston area) Looking forward to blue skies and wet water.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

Beetle, I was thinking early May, and am undecided on which route to take. Plus my boat is for sale and there is an interested buyer, so, that process, whichever way it plays out will delay me no doubt. A good option for me either way. Let me know when you get ready to head out.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

btw, Beetle, have you considered doing that trip in two legs, first to Hilo, which is a very relaxed entry, then on to Oahu or on up to the NW? I did the first half of that to Hilo in April, 2400 miles in 22 days, 2 years ago. The boat went on to Seattle in June with half a dozen others leaving from Ko Olina, west of Honolulu.
