Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

Zee, thought I was ready to go. Have crew arriving tomorrow. But when I got back to Panama City Monday, could not get through to the guy fixing my mainsail - Portobello Canvas. Had pone on voice mail, but hasn't gotten back to me yet. What am I going to do without a mainsail?!! I may just motor up to Costa Rica while I wait to hear. Sigh. I really want to get north and party with you in Zihua!

I sure would if I could, you know that. Had a rough night with dad and his dementia, couldn't convince him he was in his bed and nothing had changed. I got about 2 hours sleep, and I'm not even on a passage.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

The patience is what I need to work on for myself. No matter how far fetched dad thinks his reality is, I can't argue, as it only makes things worse. It all started with him telling me that he had already brushed his teeth (he doesn't go anywhere without me holding his gait belt, so I know), and I made the mistake and argued with him. Then throughout the night he kept calling out to me (I have a monitor and video camera in his room), saying he isn't in his bed and needs to get in to his bed. I have put borders on his bed because with the dementia he forgets he needs assistance to walk. This happened all night last night.

Deckofficer, I don't know if you have heard or read about treating patients like your father with coconut oil. Apparently it has had some amazing success.

Here is a web link to one website covering this topic, if you have not already done so it could be worth a try.

Coconut Oil Cures Dementia - Dr. Bruce Fife

My heart goes out to you it's a tuff road you've chosen to travel. Both my mother and grandmother had it so I know how hard it is. We kept them at home as long as we could, but Mom started wandering off and we simply could not keep her restrained short of tying her up. She ended up in an extended care facility and that was its own form of hell. No easy solutions here and no hope. Sadly, it only gets worse and never gets better. My hat is off to you for your efforts though and I pray the road you travel will be a short one.
